Super User BrianinMD Posted January 22, 2017 Super User Posted January 22, 2017 want to switch out the group 27 lead acid batteries in my boat to group 31 agm's, when reviewing capacities what is most important? Reserve capacity at 25amps? Quote
Super User Angry John Posted January 22, 2017 Super User Posted January 22, 2017 what is your application, for starting CCA is most important. If using for FF and trawling motors then life at the intended discharge rate is king. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted January 22, 2017 Author Super User Posted January 22, 2017 Both, 2 for trolling motor, 1 for cranking/accessories Quote

Super User fishnkamp Posted January 22, 2017 Super User Posted January 22, 2017 Take a good look at the cabelas agm batteries. I have been running a set for since 2010 and they are still running great. Now I do have a BPS battery charger on board and recharge them as soon as I get home. http://www.cabelas.com/product/CABELAS-ADVANCED-ANGLER-AGM-BATTERIES/1674789.uts?searchPath=%2Fbrowse.cmd%3FcategoryId%3D734095080%26CQ_search%3Dagm%2Bbatteries%26CQ_st%3Db Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted January 23, 2017 Super User Posted January 23, 2017 http://www.remybattery.com/intimidator-8a31dtm-battery.html These are as good as they come. Shop around though, there are huge differences in price for the same battery through different suppliers. This is also the same battery as the BPS, Deka makes their batteries. The best way to compare how long a battery will run on a TM is by using the Reserve minutes capacity. Make sure they are using the same rating, some will use 23 amp or even 20 amp instead of the standard 25 amp rating. CA, CCA, MCA mean nothing for deep cycle use. Usually the higher those ratings are, the worse the battery is for deep cycle TM use. A true deep cycle usually will not even have those ratings listed. Quote
Super User WRB Posted January 24, 2017 Super User Posted January 24, 2017 Take a look at VMAX MR127-1000, group 27 or MR137-120 group 31 AGM marine batteries. Tom Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted January 24, 2017 Super User Posted January 24, 2017 I'm running Optima Bluetop D31M ~ No Complaints. https://www.optimabatteries.com/en-us/bluetop-dual-purpose-deep-cycle-and-starting btw - may be a good idea to ensure that your current on board charging system will meet the needs of any battery upgrade you choose to make.
