Skwerl Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Abel, I was looking for my 'can opener' smiley but couldn't find it. I guess you can get the idea from these. Me 'n Madhouse are ready for a lil roadtrip! heeheehee Quote
abelfisher Posted July 1, 2006 Author Posted July 1, 2006 Well, I haven't opened the can yet, but I am taking it with me! I did talk to the dealer today. They got some of the parts this morning. Where they came form they didn't have all so there is another shipment being overnighted today to arrive tomorrow morning. I guess is is some kind of plate. He said the plate I had was warped and when the engine cools, the water and oil would mix. Some kind of production problem. ANyway, long story short, the part is supposed to be there tomorrow morning. He assured me the boat would be ready for me tomorrow. I certainly hope so. I am taking my wife and daughter to the airport in the ealy AM (they will be gone for 12 days) and I ain't sitting around home, if you know what I mean. I plan on fishing! Thanks for all your interest. I'll keep you updated tomorrow. Say a prayer for me. Quote
abelfisher Posted July 2, 2006 Author Posted July 2, 2006 Well I must not be living right. The part that was supposed to be overnighted via UPS never showed up today. So I am stuck! The dealer now wont be open again until Wednesday. As I mentioned one of the parts had to come from another plant in Wisconsin, but they didn't ship it until the next day after the two intial parts were shipped, and now UPS didn't deliver on time. So ol' Greg is out without a boat until at least next weekend. My wife just left today for 12 days and I was planning on getting 3 days of fishing in this weekend. :'( I may head up to a wildlife reserve tomorrow and bank fish. Haven't done that for 15 years. I am pretty ticked about right now. :-/ :-/ Quote
Madhouse27 Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 Abel, I'm feeling your pain. I hadn't even thought about how the fourth of July weekend could potentially compound your problem. As miserable as your situation is maybe there's a reason that you aren't going to be out in your boat this weekend. When crazy events occur that prevent me from doing something I have to wonder if it's like my guardian angel protecting me from some unseen disaster. Things happen for a reason and sometimes when they seem bad the reality is that they could have been a whole lot worse. Maybe you better go do some casting from the bank where it's safe Quote
Cajun1977 Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 at least your boat will be fixed and you didnt break down in the middle of the lake things could always be worse come on down to utah ive got an extra seat for you Quote
RLinNH Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 Abel, I feel your pain and anger also. I would be just as hot under the collar as you are, if not more if I were in your shoes. Now go fishing and try to forget about it until Weds. Quote
abelfisher Posted July 2, 2006 Author Posted July 2, 2006 Thanks guys! I appreciate the kind thoughts. Maybe it did happen for a reason, Madhouse. I am going to think it did. It's just that I had planned on a great weekend of fishing. Oh well, there will be plenty of weekends left. Cajun, I appreciate the offer. If you weren't so far away, I'd take you up on it! Quote
abelfisher Posted July 7, 2006 Author Posted July 7, 2006 NO! I call the dealer and the story goes liek this. Me: Hey dick, ABel here, what's the status of my boat: Dick: Well, the parts aren't her yet. But we shoudl get them today, Then in a couple of hours you'll be back on the water. Me: Dick, how do you know they are coming today? Dick: Well they didn't come yesterday so they gota be coming today. Me; Did someone call UPS to see where the delivery is? Dick: (silence)...uh, oh yeah, they said it is supposed to be here today. Me: Ok, Call me when they get there. So, afterrt thinking a few minutes i thought to myself, "Ol Dick doesn't have a clue" So i call Mercury and talk to a lady named Steph. I explain the situation and she askes for the serial number of my boat, and check into it. Comes back and says, that part has not shipped yet. Me" Huh? How come it hasn't shipped yet? StepH: (God bless her) She was right up front and said that obvioulsy Mercury was at fault here. She said the part number changed and it has not shipped. She asks, "Do you want me to ship it out today" Me: Yeah and OVERNGITH! So she takes all the info and promised me it wil go overnight, but she has to get approvals first. So I call her back in a caouple of hours. She assures me the part was approved for overnight and that it was going out. SO I call the dealer to let them know the part had not shipped but it was going out tonight. Dick: Oh yeah the parts that were coming that I thought was your shipment was somone else's. Me: No S h i t, Sherlock! My part will be their tomorrow. Have someone ready to install, and I'll call you at noon! Moral of the story: Sometime you have to actually get involved and not take anyone's word as gospel. Hopefully, the part will be there and installed or another weekend bites the dust. So that's the status. Me; Quote
Skwerl Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 Sorry to hear your dealer is such a dipwad, Abel. Sounds like he has absolutely no interest in taking care of his customers. I'm not so sure I'd continue to support such a dealer with my dollars. (Although don't tell him that until AFTER you have your boat back and another servicing dealer lined up!) Quote
bassdocktor Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 That's too bad that you finally had to get involved like that. I guess on the up side atleast the parts will becoming now. Good luck. bassdocktor Quote
IneedAnewScreenName9886691 Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 man abel, I have read your story and may I say sheeeeeeeeeessssh! I feel for ya man! House to yourself, some time on your hands and NO BOAT! I unfortunately have found that what you did about your part is becoming more routine to me for all sorts of service oriented services! Man, I hope you get to hit the water SOON! Quote
RLinNH Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 Once you get your boat back Abel, Let dickwad Dick know that you'll be finding someone else to service your Mercury from here on out. Unfriggin real some people. Quote
Cajun1977 Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 dealers like that just make me want to slap them in the mouth no respect for customers no clue about anything hopefully when they do fix it they will do it right did you let mercury know what was going on with your dealership Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted July 7, 2006 Super User Posted July 7, 2006 Abel I receive many parts overnight and a simple phone call to UPS will get instant status of where parts are. A simple phone call to Mecury would have let your dealer know that the parts were not shipped. Bad service is one thing; being lied to is far worse. I would make sure Merc. and the boat manufacturer were aware of the situation, and let them know that this dealers action reflects very badly on their products. Your story raises my blood pressure just reading it. Good luck and keep us informed. Quote
Madhouse27 Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 Man , talk about frustrating. This dealer should have been moving heaven and earth to expedite this process. Instead he's not on top of things and has an almost nonchalant attitude about the whole deal. Then he's lying to you. When does it end? I could see him not going too far out of his way if you were just some guy who simply had a problem with a mercury outboard and pulled into his dealership. The fact that you just bought this thing from him really speaks volumes about their level of concern for their customers. In my business I've certainly gone a lot further, a lot faster for a customer who spent alot less than you did. I know you're stuck at this point and just have to kind of grin and bear it. Let things play out and get your boat back. This would certainly be my last trip to this place. How unprofessional can you get? Quote
abelfisher Posted July 8, 2006 Author Posted July 8, 2006 Well, thank goodness, I finally have my boat back! My son Jacob is coming home tonight and we are planning on going all day tomorrow. Thanks for all the kind words guys, I sincerely appreciate it!!! It has been frustrating, but things can always be worse, as they say. Thanks again! Quote
bassdocktor Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 Glad you finally got it back they put you through quite the ordeal. Quote
Nick_Barr Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 It was gut renching reading this whole thread, but I am glad that you got your boat back. NOW GO CATCH SOME HAWGS!!!! Quote
