Sittin there reelin em in Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 I'm just really curious what different kinds of fishing rods and reels people use. In my in my opinion,i prefer a Abu Garcia Orra sx paired with a Duckett T-Rex So post what you like to fish with!! 2 Quote
Hulkster Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 I tend to fish with G. Loomis rods paired with Shimano reels. I have a few St. Croix rods too. love them all. 5 Quote
Sittin there reelin em in Posted January 22, 2017 Author Posted January 22, 2017 Sweet rods and reels man! I have a older Shimano reel, but never could use it. The ball bearings messed up on it. I'm curious, is that braid on them? Here is my second favorite setup! 1 Quote
bigturtle Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 We already have a better thread for this   1 Quote
Sittin there reelin em in Posted January 22, 2017 Author Posted January 22, 2017 My bad bro, I'm just joined bass resource. I'm kinda new to this! Â That one is not even up to date anyway. The last post on it was in 2009. Quote
Yudo1 Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 2009 was the first post. That thread is still going strong. Check it out because there is some awesome stuff in it. As for me, I prefer daiwa/shimano reels and loomis, kistler and megabass rods. 1 Quote

Hulkster Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Â Thanks -its actually green monofilament on them. at that point in time (last nov) it was berkely big game on the larger reels and the curado, and Berkley XT 4 pound on the smaller ones. Im switching it though. love big game but its a bit too stiff for spinning reels. the XT 4 pound seems fine though. weird. Going to give sufix elite mono a try. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted January 22, 2017 Super User Posted January 22, 2017 I've read that if you don't have pictures, then it ain't true.  Kind of lazy with taking pictures.  Have to remove all those reel covers, find a place to lay out the rods, take pics, reverse the process and then post the pics.  So take this anyway you want.   Rods I fish: Fenwick Elite Tech Smalmouth, Aetos, HMG, River Runner, Elite Tech and Techna AV, Diawa Tatula (originals), Zillion, Jupiter and V.I.P. Smallmouth, Dobyns Champion, Falcon Experts, Cara and Originals, Hammer, Redbone, Rainshadow, Quantum Smoke, SuperLite and Tour Edition, Megabass Orochi XX, Powell Endurance, Okuma Helios, Phenix Recon 2, BPS Crankin' Stick, Cabela's Prodigy, Berkley Lightning, Shimano Compre and Cumara, Abu Villain, Allstar (which I didn't get to use yet) plus a couple unmentionables.  Some favorites:  6'6" MLM Aetos, Diablo Spec R, 704CB Glass, 7' MHF Rainshadow 7, 6'10" MF Smallmouth, 7' MF Helios, 7' MLR Tatula, HMG 7'2" Med. Mod-Fast, 7'3" MHF Hammer, 6'10" HF Superlite and 7'2" MH-XF Endurance.  Reels I fish: At least 9 models of Daiwa, Shimano Curado, Chronarch and Scorpion 4x4, BPS Carbonlite, Abu Revos and round reels in 1600C Black Max and Morrum, Lew's, Pflueger, Okuma, Pinnacle, Cabela's Prodigy and an unmentionable.  Favorites are harder to pick, but some are Zillion 50th, various Alphas, TD-Z 105H, 201E7, Fuego (original), Patriarch XT, STX Gen 1, T3 1016, Primmus Xi HS and Helios Air.  Can't speak on the longevity of the last two reels, but they are on the top of my list. I have a few that I haven't had the chance to use much that may also make the "favorite" list...an Airy Red Pixy, PXL, Tournament MB and Pro Z plus the unmentionable.  Quote

Going to give sufix elite mono a try.  Big Game has pretty good abrasion resistance.  This makes it a bit springy.  I only use it on baitcast reels.  Any nylon line coils after sitting for awhile.  Siege also coils, yet doesn't seem to give loose coils on the spool after a cast like Big Game does when first used.  Although line off the spool can look like a slinky.   Big Game is okay once wet.  Elite is a softer line.  You should like it on your spinning reels.  XL and Super Natural are a couple other soft lines although I have only used Super Natural on baitcast reels so far.  XL was what I used for a good many years (when I only used spinning reels).  Only changed since getting back into fishing just to try different lines.  A friend was a Stren user and seemed to have no problems. I like the sound of that Aetos/PXL combo! That's the true definition of a finesse baitcasting combo. Bet it fishes like a dream! Quote

I'm lookingat that one for my next rod purchase. The two on top are older model Crankbait rods and they work great for me. My go to for crankbaits and small swimbaits with trebles. They have landed a heck of a lot of fish and many 5+ lbs with no problems. I do not swing my fish in the boat with the rod though unless obviously small.  I really haven't tried to use any really deep diving crankbaits though. Most of my crankbaits are i'm gonna say are less than 15'. And most of the time I play in the less than 6 ft area. So for deep divers I really don't have any opinion but I would think they would be fine.   If the newer HMG models are equally as good or better they are a good rod. I just don't know what else in its price range is out there. And I sure don't own any to make a fair comparison. 1 Quote
Arobb2012 Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Thanks I'm looking for a jig and worm rod and this is my top choice of rods. 1 Quote

Id probably go with something like a Med/Hvy Fast Action rod if I was just generally looking for a jig and worm rod. Its more universal, generally speaking it should be decent with spinnerbaits also. MODEL # HMG70MH-FC   Me personally I generally like a Med Fast or X-Fast Action if I was just texas rig worm fishing. Jigs I like a heavier power my jigs use hefty 5/0 hooks and I want to have that ability to set it. Of course different brands are a little different some a Med Hvy is more like a Hvy.   1 Quote
Sittin there reelin em in Posted January 23, 2017 Author Posted January 23, 2017 Hey guys really nice rods and reels, I noticed a lot of people are leaning over to a Shimano. I'm wondering if I need to try that out. Lets see how long this thread will last even though there's a "better one". Quote
S. Sass Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 The other thread is titled "Show off your Stuff". Stuff can be anything fishing related. My junk wasn't worthy for that thread the way the thread started. Seems it was going to be a dead serious high rollers only.  This thread was titled "Show your rod setup" Specifically for rods is the way I read it. And I happened to have had a old pic I knew where it was on the pc. On this thread no panties got in a wad on the first page that I was aware of.  Not saying this thread will last any longer or not just that the other thread may not necessarily be the "better" rod thread.     1 Quote
Spartyon2k Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 I'm curious about how the Lew's Hero performs. I procured 2 of the Tournament SG (with MSB) and love it, and my 12 year old was the benefactor of dad getting a smoking deal and was given the second (lucky little kid). Due to the discount I receive at a local Big Box, I paid less for the combos than the reel costs on its own.......I know they're decent rods (already switched mine out - but perfect for the boy), so for him it's perfect.....heck the kid to took to being able to baitcast after 5 minutes last season.... It took me a year (10 years ago), so I gave him one with mono, assuming I'd lose all the line to backlashes....,not 1 more than 10'. I like the concept of the Hero line, so I'll be watching for some reviews. I keep fondling them at GM, as they're so d**n reasonable? They obviously perform, looking at your cache......would you say they had a weakness at some level (not a great H/F rod, better suited for Xxxxxx)? I'm asking because I can get 2 for the price of some of the other rods I've been looking at..... Quote
S. Sass Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 That reel is a Mark Rose edition ran just for Walmart according to Lew's. I tried to register the warranty online and this specific one was not in the drop down menu so I had to contact Lews to warranty it. Looks as though you now have to type in the model. Funny thing is they never ever had it anywhere on their website and basically didn't want to claim it the way the response was.  If I remember correctly it was about a $50 reel. I can only say it's been flawless. Now I don't use it much any more it was one I picked up when I wanted to see if I liked the Lew's fit in my hand while fishing all day, and get a sense of how I liked the reel over all. I never meant for it to be my workhorse. But I have purchased 5 more Lew's reels since I got the good impression from that reel.  My only regret is I should have just got the $99 one piece aluminum frame LFS series instead of it. Its the only baitcaster i have that has a plastic frame. Lew's use to make one of if not the best $100 reel imho. Other companies are getting into this price range now bringing better quality at a lower price point.  It does look amazing similar to the Hero here. But mine says "Mark Rose Signature Series" where this one says "American Hero". And if I'm not mistaken mine has the vented spool.   Quote
Sittin there reelin em in Posted January 24, 2017 Author Posted January 24, 2017 REALLY nice rods guys I agree on what S. Sass said. Thanks bro maybe this thread will last long. I don't really have very expensive rod and reel setups because I'm only 14 and don't have a paying job soooo. Quote
T-Barnes Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 Anyone fishing with the $40 Abu black max? I bought one as a throwback and actually like it a lot. Quote
