MisplacedTexan99 Posted January 21, 2017 Posted January 21, 2017 I'm looking for a good solution to keep my terminal tackle organized, standard boxes are just not working nothing stays in its place. I'm mostly a shore fisherman for now so boxes tend to get jostled around a bit. The bass mafia terminal coffin looks good but i can't bring myself to spend 55 dollars on a box. What are you guys using? Quote

Super User Fishes in trees Posted January 21, 2017 Super User Posted January 21, 2017 Think soft sides for hooks. Hooks stay in original packages, sorted by type into quart size zip lock freezer bags. You might want to color code the bags - red for wide gap - blue for regular, something like that. I carry lots of different styles of hooks, so I go to the school supplies department of Walmart and buy different colors of pencil bags and it works for me. Tx rig hooks go in one bag, hooks are suited for fluke style baits go in another, drop shot hooks in a 3rd, wacky hooks in a 4th and so on. It doesn't take up that much room and they stuff into corners pretty well. A score sheet taped to the inside of the boat lid reminds me of what hooks are in the different colored bags. Weights - go to Walmart and get 1 or 2 of those smallish sized double sided Plano boxes. Plano models 3449, 3450 and 350o are all good choices. I nave numerous boxes of this style that I store terminal tackle in and they close tight and tackle doesn't migrate (unless you put stuff in wrong to start with, then you can blame the box.). I think the box with half a dozen compartments on each side work best for me. Anyway, you have one box for drop shot weights, another for tx rig tungsten, a third for regular lead bullet weights, a 4th for Florida rig weights another for "specialty weights". Stuff like suspend dots, nails, nekko rig weights . . . you get the idea. If you're bank fishing, consider that one of the easiest tackle boxes available is a 5 gallon bucket with a lid. One of the first rules of bank fishing is don't take more than you can easily carry, because walking back to the truck you'll have all that stuff, plus you'll be tired, plus you'll have a stringer of fish. Take that all into account - but don't overthink it. Another option is every spring at Walmart they sell "fishing vests". They look ignorant, you might get mistaken for a trout fisherman, but you can put a lot of stuff into the various pockets and then you have a tackle box you can wear. 1 Quote

Definitely worth the 27$ 2 Quote
Oklahoma Mike Posted January 21, 2017 Posted January 21, 2017 I just bought the Bass Mafia filler packs - three each of the hook coffins and three each weight coffins. I will just fill up one of each and throw those in my backpack when I'm bank fishing. No need to take up the space of a whole tackle box. This has saved me a ton of space in the pack. 1 Quote
TxHawgs Posted January 21, 2017 Posted January 21, 2017 New Bass Mafia terminal box, really like it. 1 Quote
Dypsis Posted January 21, 2017 Posted January 21, 2017 I also use the Bass Mafia 3700, well worth the investment. I also have each size/style in its own little bag (also labeled). 1 Quote
S. Sass Posted January 21, 2017 Posted January 21, 2017 I just use the thin Plano box I think its 3701. I use Gorilla glue and make the dividers permanent. then I use the shelving material that is kind of rubber like from Walmart and coat the inside of the lid again using Gorilla glue. Mine has been this was for over a season with no issues. None of my hooks or terminal tackle ever mixes. I think I saw this idea posted here or maybe on the internet somewhere. 6 Quote
"hamma" Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 the shelving material is a good idea S Sass,... I have the same plano for my terminal tackle that goes in a plano bag for my bass hunter, for the tracker? I have a different system But the op was talking shore fishing and as your idea would work great, I have a backpack for shore fishing, And have a small black tackle logic tackle wrap ( I think its for jigs) for my terminal tackle that fist nicely in a side pocket, works well, minimal space used, and all I need for terminal stuff fits in it 1 Quote
MisplacedTexan99 Posted January 22, 2017 Author Posted January 22, 2017 Thanks for all the ideas good stuff here. I don't mind carrying a 3700 box I carry one now so I'm leaning to one of the bass mafia boxes. The modified Plano is interesting, I have a tone of extra ones laying around I think ill try it and see how I like it. Thanks again everyone Quote

Thats the ticket right there. I did basicly the same thing. I went a few steps further and used a dab of epoxy to bottom of dividers to keep them from coming up. I then wrote in sharpie on the lid the hook sizes and type. I did the same on my weight box. I have about $10 in each one since i used the plano box with more adjustability (#3771). The liner i used came from sears. Its a thin black foam that is sold to line their toolboxes 2 Quote

Its a thin black foam that is sold to line their toolboxes I didn't use epoxy but I did use Gorilla Glue on each of the dividers. They stay in place very good so far. If anyone copies this make sure to understand how Gorilla Glue works. Read the instructions! It wouldn't be nearly as good if you didn't secure the dividers down all the way. I can see small pieces like very small hooks and snaps getting under them. These boxes are semi flexible and need this done to avoid the cracks opening under the dividers if the box is picked up with one hand. I have maybe $8 in the box or less. I had the shelf lining material from another project and the same with the glue. I think the box I gave $5.95 or $6 for and its working on 2 years its been fine. Not one sign of messing up yet. One other thing I did was to add a pack of the Desiccant. I just put it in on top of some hooks I rarely use. Its in the very center of the box in that pic on the left. Its just a little insurance. 1 Quote
