Ben had good information on motors and boats.  I'll miss his posts if he is gone.

Ben sent an extremely inappropriate PM to another member, filled with four-letter words and graphic, hostile language.  I let him know that his behavior was not appropriate and that he needed to clean up his act.  His response was to quit the forum.

I guess some guys can learn from their mistakes and grow up, others can't.  That's too bad, he was a good contributor that made an honest mistake.  :-/

Darn,

and I liked Ben...

...but, I am glad to see that Glenn could make sense of it all and still keep this the "friendliest" B.R. on the W.W.W. :D

Yo Ben,

Let go of the rage.  You were valued and appreciated here.  Just send an email to Glenn.  I'm sure you and he can work it out.  You are missed.

Now For The Rest of The Story!  A few weeks ago I made a general post about people asking "What's the Best".  Mr. Pinfloydrules (PFR) took exception to that post and sent me a very heated PM with some rather profane statements but he did use special characters to hide some of the spelling.  I did not respond, instead sent that PM to LBH and informed him to tell Mr. PFR to never send me another PM.  LBH informed me he would be dealt with so I dropt it there.

A couple of nights Mr PFR made a post of nothing but a page full of smiley faces to another persons post, totally uncalled for but since he has on numerous occassions shown no respect for others, I make a comment to his actions in that post.  NOT A PM.   He intern sends me another one of his PM's.  Having once asked a moderator to handle him, I responded to this one.  And no, I did not use special characters to mask my words since this was a PM that he instigated and not on the open forum for public view.  I told him just how I felt.

Well, like little Johnny that keeps pushing big Billy until big Billy finally pushes back, then little Johnny can't run fast enough to tell daddy how big Billy pushed him and daddy punishes Billy and little Johnny sits back and smiles.   Had it been on an open forum, I could justify Glenn's response but in a PM that was instigated by the recipient, I think he also came on a too strong.   Since I'm the first to admit I'm an ornery old man and no longer care to deal with the little twerp (PFR) and seem to have overstayed my welcome so I felt it best I just back out and leave ya'll alone.  Maybe Mr. Pinkfloydrules can answer ya'lls questions.

Best wishes

You will be missed as you see.  You were (are) a great asset and valued member to this site.  I'm sure we would all like to see you back, but you know what's best for you

Happy Trails Ben ... or Kieth .... What's up with that ;D

Every time I try to control another person's words or actions, I end up on the losing end. But I still keep trying and I still get frustrated when some twerp won't act the way I think he should act. And as long as I continue this excersize in futility, I will continue to pizz people off and make myself unhappy.

I wish you well Ben. And I wrote this post for my own benefit moreso than yours, seems I've stuck my foot in my mouth once again today (on another forum). Your words helped me see my own mistakes.

Ben, I understand where you're coming from. Sometimes in life you are able to bite your tongue and other times you can't. This was one where you let loose. It seems to me that both you and Pink had some choice words for each other. Fortunately it was done in private and not here on the forums, although it now appears that the rules are the same for both venues. This thing isn't going to be decided by who was right and who was wrong. A look at the rules says you were both in violation. It isn't going to be decided by public opinion either. It doesn't really matter what side I or anyone else for that matter is on. The way this gets resolved is for you to be bigger than the situation. You are a go to guy on here and alot of us count on your help. You've invested alot of time and energy here and are a big part of this community. Don't let a tirade directed at one person you find irrating on here be the reason for your departure. You're simply too valuable to lose over a disagreement or any subsequent stubborness.

I would just like to let everyone know that after the first PM I sent to Ben I sent another one that was an apology. And as far as the profane PM he recently sent me that made him choose to leave, I did not provoke him with any harsh words, or any words at all for that matter, that made him send it. Also, all the smilies I posted were not posted for a "prank" as Ben commented to me. I merely did it because I thought it would be cool to do something no one else has, post every single smiley (which by the way took quite a long time). Once I realized that all the smilies were slowing the site down, which I did not think would happen, I deleted the post.

Again, and I really need to make this perfectly clear - Ben was not banned nor asked to leave. He was cautioned regarding his actions - a warning - and that was it. Which was exactly how I dealt with PinkFloyd. I won't ban a person if I feel they have made an honest mistake and have a low chance of doing it again.

It's unfortunate Ben decided to leave, but that's his choice. It's also unfortunate he elected to make a post on the forums about it, rather than discuss it with me. But I think Madhouse sums up exactly my thoughts very nicely.

As for Pink's multiple smileys - he was simply experimenting with the site's capabilities, unaware that his actions would dramatically slow down the ability for everyone to view the post. True, it shouldn't have been done in the first place, but once it was brought to his attention, he immediately deleted them all. Lesson learned. The perception was that he did it maliciously, which isn't the case.

One other lesson PFR learned was to never let his emotions rule his actions. Sending PM's when upset only makes matters worse. True, he sent an inappropriate PM, but he realized his mistake and apologized. Not only that, but he showed restraint by not replying to Ben's nasty PM in the same manner.

Anyway, just as with PinkFloyd, Ben is welcome to stay now that the air has cleared. The choice is up to him.
