Catch 22 Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 I have been using the KVD jerk/slash bait 200 series. Basically a good bait that works well and catches fish. One produced a 4 lbr today. A minor problem, probably my fault ,cropped up when trying to remove the rear hook from a deep hooked fish. While wrestling the hook I broke the rear of the bait on two of them now. They could use a little better molded in fastener imo. A partial answer is to pinch the barbs so they remove easier. I will still buy/use them because ===well they catch. C22 Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted January 20, 2017 Super User Posted January 20, 2017 Maybe you got a couple bad ones. I use these baits a lot and have never broken one, and I have had to do some real surgery and magic tricks getting them out of the back of large pikes throats. Now that I re-read your post.......I'm confused, are you breaking the body of the bait it self? Or the hooks? If it's the hooks, then yeah, the stock hooks are pretty light wire on them, I switch them out before they even hit the water with 2x strong Mustad KVD short shank triple grips....#4's on the 200, they DO NOT negatively effect the performance of the bait, and you need a plasma cutter or bolt cutters to bust those hooks. 2 Quote

But the 300 & the Deep bait work perfectly with the KVD short shanks. I seriously hammered fish with this bait this past season, especially early and late in the year. Haven't had any breakage of any type with this bait either - baits or hooks; although as @ww2farmer mentioned those trebles are pretty much bomb proof. A-Jay 1 Quote
Nor-Cal Basser Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 I should spend more time fishing the KVD jerkbait. I bought a few of them on sale months ago but I haven't even opened them yet. Might have to leave the Ima Flits at home next time I go out and give the KVD a good run. Quote
