When I cleaned up my fishing room I found an old buzzbait with no skirt. What color would work best for my shallow fairly clear lake? I havent fished one n many years and am looking to beef up the topwater game this year.

I think the original skirt was white.

I will be using it most in low- light conditions so I was thinking black.

It is aluminum, with a white jig head.

Thanks,Mike

I like a clear/silver flake silicone skirt for buzzbaits, white and chartruese are good too, black at night?,..yeah. But that clear/silver flake seems to work well in clear waters up here ,... no matter what the lighting is

Black wouldd be good . Back when buzzbaits all came with flat 40 strand skirts I did well with the black / yellow ones .

I would put a white skirt back on. I can't remember throwing anything but white on a buzz bait, but that is just me.

I only throw black buzzbaits anymore, but I honestly think if they're eating a buzzbait, they'll probably hit any color you throw.

I've caught more bass on one black/blue buzzbait than all others combined. It couldn't hurt that I fish it more of course. But I fish it because the others let me down a few times. I got tired of always buying skirts just to have them knocked off so i put a buzzfrog on it. They still bite it.

edit:

I should've read the comments before making mine. But, really, the skirt is just there to show the bass where to strike.

I've always used a black and chartreuse skirt with tri wings. I bet if you used a bright red/white/chartreuse would kill in the spring to summer transition. I use black in dirty "chocolate milk" water. I love using tri wings so I can slow roll it and keep it on the surface. Clear water I go for visibility (white, chartreuse, bright shinny blades, reflective*) and if smallmouth use colored blades. Murky water go for sound/vibration (loud blades, clanker blades**) and try to use black. Black is the most visible color in dirty/murky water. When a fish has lived in murky water it will depend mainly on its hearing and vibrations. That is why a chatterbait or buzzbait is a good choice. Also it is smart to use a trailer hook for that extra help/backup.

*War eagle sells some reflective buzzbait and they are sweet.

I bought two of those Bill Norman Triple Wings and they did not have a rivet , instead they had a bead . They did not squeak . A buddy and I were fishing and he was tearing them up on a Lunker lure and I didnt get a strike on the Triple Wing . I finally had to give in and fish a Lunker Lure . I havent used one since , but this winter I have replaced the bead with rivets so I'll give it another shot this season .
