It's a toad Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 I wanted to buy some football jigs but do not know what to buy because there are so many options so I want to see your opinions. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted January 19, 2017 Super User Posted January 19, 2017 It depends on how and where you are going to use them. If you use them the original way they were intended, which is deep clear water on light 10lb to 12lb line over rock and sand bottom, then you'll be wanting a light wire hook version with a thin or soft weed guard. If you want to use heavy line in areas that may have some cover or in shallow areas with stumps and rock, well you'll want a heavy wire hook with a stiff weed guard. If the hook is light wire then the weed guard will match, same with the heavy wire hook. 1 Quote

Onvacation Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 To add to Roadwarrior's link, I buy all of my jigs from Siebert. One of the reasons for that is because they are big enough to offer good pricing and a large selection, but small enough that they can serve as more of a boutique vendor. In other words, if you send Mike an email about your specific water that you fish in, he has the experience to make a recommendation for you on color, size and specific model. If you really want to just dive in, go buy a Dredge Jig package for $15. http://www.siebertoutdoors.com/Dredge-Jig-Pack-455.htm This will be a minimal investment, you get to try the product out in several proven colors, and I guarantee you will have found your long term jig supplier. 5 Quote
je1946 Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 Agree with the others on here. Mike Siebert can guide you in the right direction. Gd jigs with gd hooks. Give Mike a shout, It'll be the best move you make as far as jigs go. 1 Quote

Super User ww2farmer Posted January 19, 2017 Super User Posted January 19, 2017 I like the Boss football jig heads, multiple color choices, excellent quality, and you can get them in a heavy or light wire hook. With a pack of these jig heads, and a pack of Boss skirts in your favorite color, you can have 4 quality football head jigs for about $2.50 each. 1 Quote
gripnrip Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 Siebert or Boss. I make my own football jigs now. I get my skirts from fishingskirts.com Quote
Super User WRB Posted January 20, 2017 Super User Posted January 20, 2017 Siebert Outdoor prices and quality are hard to beat. Any jig is only as good as the hook used to make and Siebert uses premium hooks, Owner and Mustad. The only other football jig that I have recommended is GYCB plain football jigs with either Owner or Gamakatsu hooks with wire weedgards. Tom Quote
Landon2954 Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 I am fishing in a tournament what are some good rigs to use in cooler water and when the water is not clear. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 23, 2021 Super User Posted October 23, 2021 This is my favorite from Siebert Outdoors: https://siebertoutdoors.com/products/ols/products/grid-iron-brush-jig 1 Quote
Super User Columbia Craw Posted October 24, 2021 Super User Posted October 24, 2021 On this one I’m partial to Dobyns Extreme spotted bass football head. Gammi EWG hook, hand tied and great color options. Quote
Super User ATA Posted October 24, 2021 Super User Posted October 24, 2021 it been couple years that any jig I am buying has inner loop for tightening the line, so the loop is not outside of jig. Quote
