Outside of a 5 fish tournament format, if one is practicing catch & release, very few people would choose to spend the day catching five 3 lb fish instead of twenty 1 lb fish with one or two larger fish added in. In a 5 fish tourney, a person may sit on a location for 8 hours looking for 5 bites. Very few folks do that when fun fishing, instead they are constantly looking for that area or bait which is creating the most action. By introducing a format which emulates the way most people fish for fun, they have created a product in which one can imagine they are participating in every time they are out on the water. This actually makes a lot of sense and is probably the reason I feel the way I do about the MLF format. 99.9% of the time I'm fishing for larger fish so that's what I identify with more. Quote
RichF Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 @Team9nine Thanks for all the MLF background info. I knew very little about how it got started so I appreciate the info. Even though I complain about all the small fish caught during competition, I still like what MLF is doing and hope they keep expanding. 2 Quote
CTBassin860 Posted February 12, 2017 Author Posted February 12, 2017 Martens 88 pounds to take the single day record away from KVD! That was pretty awesome. Quote

Tim Kelly Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 I find Martens very entertaining. Suggs on the other hand can swim home. All that puffing and panting and thanking the lord would wear on me very quickly. 1 Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted February 12, 2017 Super User Posted February 12, 2017 I tape mlf and watch it later so I can FF through the commercials. So I watched the one yesterday where Short pulled in front of Watson and caught the 5 pounder.I had never liked Watson up to that point, then found myself hoping he'd overtake Short.Watson made me laugh several times with his " pray for Suggs " campaign, and when he kept yelling at Suggs and he wouldn't respond. Also with his almost constant banter with the " score tracker update " man.H e was coming back hard there at the end with the 5 and 4 pounder. I kind of like Shyrock too he kept It competetive. Quote
RichF Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 Martens def found the school to end all schools. It was awesome to see a bunch of nice fish caught off shore. That lake looks pretty awesome btw. Quote

Judging by the other competitors weights, A-Mart was on the right lake,on the right day to break the record. Evers had almost 60lbs and some others had 40+ lbs. Those weights would have won most any other MLF event. It'll be interesting how rest of the field does in their rounds. 2 Quote

I was waiting for Evers to say something. Catch 60 pounds in MLF, just enough to get stomped by 30 pounds, that's pretty rough. A-A-Ron is a weird dude. I got to talk to him at an Elite event at Table Rock. I thought maybe he rambles like he does on TV because he's nervous, but he was the same in person, unless he was nervous talking to me for some reason. Thankfully it was cold out so his whole no showers or deodorant thing didn't overwhelm me. 2 Quote

I just thought he was a health nut and liked to run. He obviously has the fishing credentials. Personally though, he seems to be a bit of a whiner though when things aren't going his way. Or at least that what I see on MLF. There are others that carry themselves better when they are catching them or not catching them. 1 Quote

Sounded like he was smelling a little funky the day they were fishing together. Maybe it helps attract the fish 1 Quote

Temper tantrums like contestants breaking thier rods or throwing rods overboard is OK? Keep in mind that Aaron has overcome some serious social issues, stuttering, speech inpediments, ability to stay focused and color blindness. Confidence to find bass has never been his short coming. wdp Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 That was an unbelievable day Martens had. I thought he was slaying em in period 1, until he started catching all the 3-4 pound smallies at the end of period 2 thru period 3. It was like a once in a lifetime kinda day. Surely he takes showers occasionally. Can you imagine how he smells after running a marathon? He is kinda an odd fellow. And the whining thing, most of them do that to a certain extent - especially when they aren't catching anything but the score tracker keeps lighting up. Some are just way worse than others. Now ole Suggs seems to like whining even when he's catching em, lol. Still the best fishing show on TV. Making the cut to advance to next round always builds up some drama at the end. Quote

Tom I'm willing to bet that most if not everyone on here would agree that Bobby Lane and Skeet Reese just to name a couple who break their rods out of anger is a very bad look. The conversation was about Aaron Martins and his little quirks. I think everybody has said that they respect the hell out of his fishing abilities. The little quirks just happened to be the topic of the day is all. 1 Quote

Tom I said most not all. Breaking rods and throwing rods is not OK. A-Mart personal issues are his. We all have them. I don't dislike him. If i met him, I'm sure that I would like him just fine. The whining on TV bothers me. BL breaking his rod bothered me as well. Quote
96ecss Posted February 14, 2017 Posted February 14, 2017 Whenever I see a pro break a rod out of anger or frustration, it makes me wonder if they would do that if they had to pay for that rod. Dave Quote
