Super User ChrisD46 Posted January 17, 2017 Super User Posted January 17, 2017 Looking to move beyond the basic : White Pearl & Watermelon Super Fluke colors ... Anyone had luck with : Electric Shad , Blue Gill Flash or Houdini , etc. colors in a super fluke ? These are a few newer colors which I thought might show promise - thanks in advance for your experiences . Quote
Fishin' Fool Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 All you need are 3 colors- white, something natural (say watermelon) and if you fish for smallies throw a pink in there. 2 Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted January 17, 2017 Super User Posted January 17, 2017 My buddy kills the largemouth with the pearl white/chartruese tail. Bluegill flash and Houdini work well up here as well because we have a lot of bluegill and perch. 2 Quote
Kidflex Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 I haven't used the colors you mentioned but green pumpkin candy and watermelon slice has been the best producers for me last year. I'm pretty sure any color fluke will work. Quote
bagofdonuts Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 Once had an amazing day on Ky Lake using Arkansas Shiner color. 1 Quote
wdp Posted January 17, 2017 Posted January 17, 2017 I've had really good results with Bluegill Flash, Houdini, and Watermelon Magic. Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted January 17, 2017 Super User Posted January 17, 2017 Have been fishing flukes for years. Have not found another color that can compete with black and believe me I have tried. It doesn't look like anything special but it just gets bit! 1 Quote

wdp Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 Another color I've had good success with in stained to slightly muddy water is Midnight Chartruese. It's half black on top with a glitter chartruese color on bottom. 1 Quote

Also pearl, bubblegum, and baby bass. That's all I need. Quote
Super User webertime Posted January 18, 2017 Super User Posted January 18, 2017 Watermelon gold flake if you have Perch in your waters. Quote

Also pearl, bubblegum, and baby bass. That's all I need. Black is just one of those colors I can't explain why it is so effective in what to the fish should be a baitfish imitation. Years ago club guy one "angler of the year" by almost exclusively throwing this color from March through October. Yea, talk about boring and uneventful but the results sort of speak for themselves. I have had days fishing side by side with friends with virtually identical setups except he was using a Green Pumpkin fluke and I had black. I was at least 2:1 on fish caught and bites. After that he grabbed 3 packs for his own stash. I think I keep about 7 or 8 packs of them on hand plus mend it. To me they really excel when bass are pushing shallow around the spawn and during the summer and early fall period. When guys are tossing frogs and toads this bait seems to be a nice change up to pressured fish. The action and sort of "dying glide" when killed is pretty irresistible to fish. With the black color I can fish it at the crack of dawn and evening to dark plus every time in between. Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted January 18, 2017 Author Super User Posted January 18, 2017 OP here - I should have noted I'm fishing for large mouth and spotted bass in clear to slightly stained reservoirs. Quote
Chowderhead Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 Baby bass was my top color Super Fluke last year. Quote
chattooga_ basser Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 Arkansas shiner and Baby Bass are two of my favourites in addition to the standards, green pumpkin and pearl white. Quote
Super User Spankey Posted January 18, 2017 Super User Posted January 18, 2017 Soft plastics are relatively cheap. I like the natural bait fish colors and black also. But if you see a color you feel good about. Pick it up. It will work. Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted January 19, 2017 Author Super User Posted January 19, 2017 I was in a tackle store yesterday and saw a few new colors from Zoom I had never seen : Arkansas Shad - Looks like tan albino with silver sparkle . Pro Blue Red Pearl - Depending on the light , this color can look like three different colors. Watermelon Pro Blue - Another new color that appears to change colors depending on the light . Quote
snake95 Posted January 19, 2017 Posted January 19, 2017 My top producing fluke color last year was pink bubblegum for largemouth in slightly stained shallow water. I know a lot of guys like basic white, baby bass, etc but pink was the ticket for me again and again. Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted January 19, 2017 Author Super User Posted January 19, 2017 I read enough about how good a color Bubblegum is - I would have to work on my confidence in order to throw such a color ! As for the color black (as well as green pumpkin) - I reason that it is so opaque with no light passing through it that bass bite on the shape alone ? Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted January 20, 2017 Super User Posted January 20, 2017 Moccasin Blue has been a solid producer for me for years. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted January 20, 2017 Super User Posted January 20, 2017 Just a few colors, keep it simple. White, lemon shad, baby bass, arkansas shiner, watermelonseed, bluegill, shad, and pink. Quote
