Bass Jig Storage?

I have been storing my jigs in a Plano box and have been reasonably happy with it. For some reason I wanted a change. What I am looking at doing is putting 6-7 jigs to a quart size freezer bag and roll the up a bit. I have a tackle logic bag that seems to hold them well. This should save me some space. 

 

My my concerns are two, will this damage the weed guard or will the skirts get funky stored packed in a bag like that?

only time will tell really i haven't seen anyone do this before but i'm sure someone has tried it

no, nothing bad will happen to your jig skirt or weedguard, but you have to be careful of any remaining water, as they can damage your hooks if you dont let it dry

I store mine like this guy, in 3707 04 PLANO® ELITE™ 3700 SERIES

I have stored jigs that way but it was for a short duration where I only needed them for a weekend trip. Bending of the weedguard would only be a concern if there was significant weight placed on them for an extended period of time. The nice thing about using something like a 3600 or 3700 series box is the hard shell of protection they provide. My jig collection is stored in all 3700 series boxes and 3600 series boxes.

Used to store mine in bps binder as you are describing. Did that for about 5 yrs. no issues as long as they are dry first

If you are concerned with moisture in the ploy bag just punch some holes with a paper hole punch. 

Awhile back I suggested using the rolled poly zip lock bags to store hair jigs in, been doing this for decades!

I think keeping the same colors together is a good idea.

i posted the exact box number. You can see it on their website. They make two similar boxes, one listed just for spinnerbaits and another listed for spinner + buzzbaits.

 

Interestingly, I think Plano initially may have overlooked the aspect of these boxes to be used for Jigs. I saw a video on YT with a guy giving a review of the box and he showed how how the box worked perfectly for Jigs, and then he mentioned that someone at Plano should take note.  The interesting part is that Plano titled the boxes specifically 'Spinnerbait' and 'Spinnerbait & Buzzbait' but in the description of the box, does it say it can be used for jigs and crank baits. Maybe they added the 'jigs' into the description after the fact.

 

I really like the boxes though as I can fit one row of spinnerbaits, one row of jigs, and one row of buzzbaits all in the same box. Perfect for a bank fisherman who likes to fish efficiently.

You should have no problems at all, unless you seal a wet jig inside one of those baggies. Might lead to hook corrosion from the excess moisture/humidity. If you're concerned about the skirts, lay them in there with the skirt fully extended to both sides of the jig heads (jig heads to the center of the baggie). I solved all my problems and simplified my jig box by going with this option

I am kinda thinking I will use the bag for on the water and fishing trips and the Plano for bulk storage at home. While I don't have a monster jig collection, I think that I have enough that if they sat for a while I might be concerned about the weed guards.

 

I do have holes in the bags, but I could make them bigger. On the water I have two plastic shoe boxes with drain holes in the bottom to put used non Zman plastics in to dry and so I don't step on them when fishing barefoot. 

 

The plano box is really cool, but I am trying to downsize on the water, with a 16' narrow beamed boat, tackle and rod storage on the water is a big deal for me. I ditched the spinnerbait box for a similar setup, which got me to thinking I should do the same with jigs. The spinner baits are stored in a box not the bags between trips.

What brand of jigs are those? I do like the craw skirts, do you use a trailer with them, and if so what style?

I would not put a wet jig in a bag.  The other tip might to add a little desiccant to each pouch to prevent rust.

I'm not sure as it's not my jig box. Just some guys I found online so I didn't have to take a pic of mine which looks the same but with different jigs. Might be a custom? Seems like a lot of guys make their own jigs these days.

Ive done both options, and while the tackle wrap is great for space,.. the holes in the baggies is needed,... the Plano 3700 is a good option if you have the space for it.

 Example: when fishing from my tracker? I have a 3700

 when fishing from my basshunter? a small tackle wrap

I made my own fish Binder with heavy grade freezer bags and my girlfriend was able to put Grommets in the corner of each bag so I can attach it to my belt with a clip.

 

I stuff one bag full of spinnerbaits & Jigs & I only change them out a few times per year but if you buy the good quality bags, they will not melt any plastics, Skirts etc.

 

It saves time as I put all the terminal tackle in one bag, skirted lures in another, Confidence lures in the others and then a few bags of whatever I Plan on using. Even the Z-Man Stuff has not melted although it seems to always come pre-melted when I order them.

 

I have soft baits that have been stored now for close to 10 years and all are in zip lock sealed bags that I oiled and when I need to replenish, they are always in perfect shape as long as you store them so they are not pressed against each other.

 

With Hooks and lures, make sure they only go in the bags when dry otherwise you will get rust and a bunch of messed up skirts. I usually just whip them around before taking them off the line before throwing them back in & different skirts do not seem to mix together although living rubber can cause some issues if they get too hot.

I have to say, that looks awesome. I have that box as well but I ended up removin the trays and just tossing them all together because I never have the patience to put them back while fishing. I always flip my boxes within the first hour of fishing anyway but I think mine was a cheaper brand because the jigs did not stay in the slots well. I think Maybe the one I have was for Umbrella rigs, but I like the colors and collection. 

 

I see you like the bruiser color. I have almost the exact same colors for the most part. The only one I see missing is the Watermelon Blue and GP/Blue. I actually love green pumpkin, blue, and a few strands of chart but the brown/green/orange is hard to beat in the Spring and Fall, Winter & I see you have plenty and they look awesome.

 

what type of heads are those? do you pour them? The coloring and shape looks really good. I

Reviving an old thread to toss in a couple pennies..

 

I liked the idea I saw from this thread of using the spinnerbait plano boxes to organize jigs, but I felt it wasn't too efficient on space. I'm the kind of guy, if I'm goin fishin' and I wanna fish jigs, I grab one box and I'm good to go. This makes packing for shore fishing quicker & easier. I was able to fit 2 of the spinnerbait racks in the right side of the box, and used a crankbait insert for the left side to store plastics.

 

 

The inserts are prone to lifting out of the box if you're removing a jig with a large "neck" so to speak, nothing a little double stick tape or glue couldn't handle.

they are made by glc fishing they come in skirts and punch rigs but i cant figure out how to order them

I saw this post and got one of these boxes as well. It works great but some of my smaller jugs and football heads won’t stay put in the keepers. If I hit any kind of rough water several of my jigs come loose. Plus, mine don’t stay as organized as the jigs in this picture.
