CrustyMono Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 This is a list of all the rods reels and line that I would like to eventually have. I am nowhere near that. I have a long way to go until I am there. It will take lots of hard work, but I think I can do it. Here is the list: Rod & Reel Arsenal Wacky Rig Setup -7’1” ML Powell Max 3D -Shimano NASCI 3000 -20 lb test Sufix 832/ 8 lb test Seaguar Abrasx Drop Shot Setup -6’10” ML *** *** Black -*** Creed GT 2500 -20 lb test Sufix 832/ 8 lb test Seaguar Abrasx Jerkbait Setup -6’8” M St. Croix Mojo Bass -Daiwa Tatula CT 7.3:1 -12 lb test Seaguar Invisx Small Crankbait Setup -7’ MH Mod Dobyns Fury -Abu Garcia Orra Winch 5.4:1 -12 lb test Seaguar Invisx Large Crankbait Setup -7’10” MH Quantum Tour KVD Cranking -Abu Garcia Orra Winch 5.4:1 -12 lb test Seaguar Invisx Soft Plastics Setup -7’1” M St. Croix Mojo Bass -Shimano Curado 7.2:1 -15 pound Seaguar Invisx Texas Rig Setup -7’ H Dobyns Fury -Shimano Scorpion 7.2:1 -17 lb test Seaguar Invisx Jig Setup -7’3” MH Dobyns Fury -Daiwa Zillion 7.3:1 -17 lb test Seaguar Invisx Spinnerbait Setup -7’ MH Mod Dobyns Fury -Shimano Curado 6.3:1 -15 lb test Seaguar Invisx Topwater Setup -7’1” M Mod Cabela’s Tournament ZX -Daiwa Tatula CT 7.3:1 -12 lb test Seaguar Senshi Frog Setup -7’3” Heavy Dobyns Fury -Quantum Smoke PT 7.3:1 -50 lb test Suffix 832 Flipping Setup -7’6” MH Dobyns Fury -Cabela’s Arachnid 8.1:1 -50 lb test Suffix 832 What do you think? Is there anything I should add? Keep in mind that this is not counting the rods and reel I have now. Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted January 16, 2017 Super User Posted January 16, 2017 Seems pretty well rounded and doable to me. I would say you may want to drop down to 10# for your jerkbait setup. Also as far as adding something else it may depend upon a few things. You could add a great all purpose setup like say a Loomis MBR 843 and the reel of your choice for those outings where you can only bring a limited amount of gear. If you fish a lot of tubes or shakey heads you could buy a dedicated outfit for that. Then you have the swimbait outfits if that is something you think you may do. Lastly there is the BFS or Bait Finesse System craze with casting gear. Basically you are throwing baits under 3/16 oz with UL or Light action casting rods with finesse oriented reels with special spools and generally line size around 6#. 1 Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted January 16, 2017 Super User Posted January 16, 2017 Why so many setups? Are you a regular tournament angler? You can pull double and triple duty with a few of them. Different strokes for different folks though. 2 Quote
bigturtle Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 yup, very many redundant stuff, but i think this is just like one of those "dream arsenal" kind of things many of us have. I have a dream arsenal too, and I only completed 1 out of the 6 combos 1 Quote
EvanT123 Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Sounds like a well rounded arsenal. Like mentioned above many of those combos could easily pull double or triple duty. I had had a college professor break things down real simple many years ago. Do you like the same things you did at 16 as you do at 20? (He posed the question in reference to tattoos) As far as fishing goes YES! However my tastes in fishing have changed. It's nice to dream up a boat load of combos; but I think it's better to learn and understand how and were you like to fish and build from there. Plus the return on $100 rods is crap especially when the best $100 rod will be out next week. 1 Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted January 16, 2017 Super User Posted January 16, 2017 Another option to consider if you will is possibly pooling funds for a nicer rod for your bottom contact apps. Instead of 3 or 4 bottom contact rods maybe splurge on 1 or 2 nice rods that will give you better feel. Many years ago I purchased lots of sub $100 rods and then migrated towards rods around $150 to $200. After upgrading to something nicer I lost a decent amount selling. For example a rod I bought for $120 new I was only able to get about $80 shipped for. This has taught me to buy the best you can afford especially if you think you may try to upgrade the reel or rod at a later date. Most of what I buy now I plan on keeping for a very long time. Quote
