samwise2u Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Tight Lines! Launched from Oak Ridge, on the water around 11:30am. Motored out to a grass hump on the main lake I had seen on previous trips. 2nd cast caught a 15". Cool. Fished that hump till I was tired fishing that hump. Caught a total of 2 bass, had a third within 5' of the boat then he was gone. Had another that I felt the bite and saw the line moving left, when I set the hook no fish and no jig, nothing but 30# braid come up outta the water. Hmph. All this on a black/blue jig. Tied on another back/blue jig. There was 2' - 4' of water on top of the hump, the boat was in 7' of water. If I had cast out the back of the boat could have cast across the river channel. Moved on to an area I am trying to learn. Searching for a creek bed and road bed that intersect the channel. Trying to put this whole deep water is sanctuary, structure, breaks, break lines and cover together. Throwing a Rapala slow sinking jerk/crank bait. Caught the biggest Sac-A-Lait of my life. 1.45lbs. Cool. Throw the Rapala and jig till the weather changed. The wind picked up causing white caps. I buttoned up the hatches and headed to the Sabine River. On the river I catch some more Sac-A-Laits on the Rapala. No bass on the Rapala or jig. Weather has passed. Headed back to the creek bed and road bed. No luck. Tried the Rapala and jig all around that area. Dang. Sun was getting low so I headed to the launch. Put the truck in drive at 5:36pm headed to the house. 2 1/2 bass and 5 Sac-A-Laits. Put the Sac-A-Laits in the neighborhood pond. 1 Quote
Kidflex Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 Nice report. You seeing any white bass activity up in the river? The white bass spawn in the river Jan-March and are usually stacked up. Quote
samwise2u Posted January 16, 2017 Author Posted January 16, 2017 @Kidflex I have not. And to tell you the truth I would not know what White Bass activity looked like. If you can describe it to me when I do see some I will let you know. Quote
Kidflex Posted January 16, 2017 Posted January 16, 2017 They'll be bunched up on sandbars. Usually aggressive to most small lures. Most of the time u can pull 20-50 from one spot. I do a yearly white bass trip with riverridge guide service in February and we normally limit out in a few hours. Fishing the river about 5 miles north of logansport Quote
