basss Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 So... I'm heading out my front door to get to work and I noticed my rod tube on my porch. Bad part is that thing has some major damage. One of the caps is completely off, only held on by tape. The middle of the tube is broken and hanging. The other end of the tube is also damaged but still on. I don't understand?!!! I did not have time to unwrap it and check for damage. Hope it is fine. I'll have to wait till I get home to verify though. Quote
bigfruits Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 had a similar problem last week but luckily the rod was undamaged. I think I would have been late to work today if same happened to me. I couldn't sit at work with it on my mind! you had time to take pics but not open it? good luck, good chance all is well. Quote

Funny thing is, I remember hearing a UPS truck around 8 pm stop around my house, which is not uncommon in my neighborhood, but the doorbell didn't ring; which they usually do when they deliver a package so I did not think anything of it. Our UPS guy usually puts whatever package down next to my door, gives a super quick knock and is in the truck driving off by the time I open the door. Quote

Wasn't the most expensive rod I have and they're replaced one I broke before so I'm not too worried about it. I do have 8 others so it won't cost me any fishing time if it is broken. Quote

bigfruits Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 ordering from big stores shouldnt be a problem if it breaks. ive rcvd and mailed out about 40 rods total in cardboard and had one tube break. i got lucky though and there was no damage. USPS did a crappy job with tape to try to fix the broken tube. basss - how does she look? Quote
basss Posted January 13, 2017 Author Posted January 13, 2017 Just got home, she's good. Not a scratch. My new frog rod is ready! 3 Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted January 13, 2017 Super User Posted January 13, 2017 The rod I got in a tube like that was in two pieces. I didn't rant and rave, but it does make you a little sick. You are one lucky dude! Another rod I received in a perfect tube had the tip broken off at the first guide down from the tip. Seller (private and should know better) never wrapped anything around the rod. It was free to slide back-and-forth in the tube....to the detriment of the rod. Quote

Super User ChrisD46 Posted January 14, 2017 Super User Posted January 14, 2017 Makes you wonder if UPS turns apes loose in their package holding area ? Those tubes look like some one went out of their way to cause damage ... How does a UPS driver in good conscience take tubes looking like that to someone's doorstep ? Quote

I would not feel so lucky that it is not broken. There is a real good chance your rod has hidden damage based on the condition of the shipping tube. If it does it will break early on while being fished. Quote
