Ohitsmeagain Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Hi, I already use squarebill cranking and am looking for a good normal Crankbait. What is the best one? Quote
jr231 Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 My favorite is the rapala DT fat. And I have high hopes for a silent model lucky craft I just purchased. Most responses are going to consist of the KVD squarebills I'm sure 1 Quote

CTBassin860 Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 KVD 1.5 I guess I always considered my squarebills "normal" 1 Quote
dwardmba Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Non squarebill you can do worse than an XD____ (3, 5, 6... fill in the blank to match the depth). Then again if you're just experimenting a three pack of the Bomber Model A can be had pretty economically and they catch fish. Dave Quote
Super User WRB Posted January 13, 2017 Super User Posted January 13, 2017 If I had to pick 1 diving crankbait to bass fish with it would be a difficult choice. 6' to 10' depth range a custom painted ghost Bomber 7A has caught a lot bass in the 3 lb to 4 lb size for me. 12' to 15' depth range is a toss up between Poe wooden cedar custom ghost 300 series and Norman DD 22 custom dark red craw pattern. Both these lures have caught a lot 6 lb to 9 lb bass for me, 14.7 lb on the Poe tips the scale in it's favor. Tom Quote

Most responses are going to consist of the KVD squarebills I'm sure Are you using the DT Fat 1 or Fat 3? I bought a couple of the DT Fat 1 cranks like 2 yrs ago and only used em once. I gotta lake with a ditch running thru the middle of big flat that's only 2 - 3 ft deep. At times that stack up in that flat up & down that ditch. Shallow cranks absolutely kill em some days. I mostly use a Baby 1- and it's hard to put it down cause it's usually so productive. Also, a burned 1/4 oz Redeye slays em well. But it I really wanna give that DT Fat a chance. Quote
jr231 Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 @wdp I've consumed a few alcoholic beverages tonight. I quickly read the post and thought he was asking for favorite squarebills. In which mine would be the DT fat. I use both. I really like em both but have caught slightly more fish on the DT fat 1. It's a good search bait to find active fish..I've had 15+ fish days on the "hot mustard " color (I bet I could bash about 20 nuggets with some hot mustard right now lol) . It's a real fun bait to fish and can take a beating. And never need to swap hooks. Some come with a "sureset " hook that is awesome IMO because it only dives about a foot. But my overall preferred "crank" is the jointed shad rap.. I love the price , action , and how it suspends. I have a couple that are retired. And a couple new ones I hope I wear out In the seasons to come. 2 Quote

I can't wait for the pre-spawn to begin. 1 Quote
mwh33 Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Deep cranks I like Bomber Fat Free Shad and Norman DD22s. Midrange Strike king kvd, lucky craft. Squarebills lucky craft rto, river2sea biggie, jackall askas, and kvd. Last, but not least lipless cranks lucky craft and red eye shad. Quote

Super User burrows Posted January 13, 2017 Super User Posted January 13, 2017 Best crankbait you can throw all year is probably a shadrap. 2 Quote
tholmes Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Norman. Any of them. They make a crank for any depth from shallow to 20+ feet in a vast array of colors. Great quality and reasonably priced. Tom 4 Quote

Yup that was me, I also did say that some of their baits were staples in my arsenal and the shadrap is definitely one of them and the reason for that is because you can throw it anytime I can go out to a pond right now and probably catch a good bass in the summer I can catch em,so all around it's a great bait. It wouldn't be my go to squarebill but I could still throw it in summer and catch them maybe not as good as I would with a squarebill but it works in the dig days of summer so it is definitely one of the best crankbaits to have and a must have I believe in every anglers arsenal. Is rapala my favorite brand, no but this bait deserves its place as best all year summer spring fall and winter bass catching crankbait. Edited January 13, 2017 by Burros Added Quote

S. Sass Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 I'm a Bomber, Normans, Rapala DT, and a Mann's minus user. As far as general cranks go they have just about anything I've needed without stupid prices. Of course there are different ones for lipless and square bills I use. 2 Quote
Super User Spankey Posted January 13, 2017 Super User Posted January 13, 2017 Crankbaits. Love throwing them. Got a lot of best crankbaits on my boat. Bombers, Bandits, Rapalas, Cottons, Normans and SKs. Are talking about getting into lipless? Gotta have them. Don't make crankbait fishing out to be more than it is. Pretty simple. Keep it simple. But you do have to have an idea how deep you want it to run or get down to. Quote
Hawkeye21 Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 I love throwing crank baits and my favorites are the KVD 1.5, Shad Rap and Flicker Shad. I think my all time favorite lately has been a Strike King Red Eye Shad in orange craw. Quote
