Have you even seen the inside of a fishing reel?

Uh yes. They cast better and last longer and are smoother than ever. That pretty much is true with the big 3.

Mine are near 30 years old so if new ones last longer I wouldn’t be around to use em!

Some may be able to cast better, but it’s just not true that they last longer or are smoother, or smoother longer. My Curado Ds are much smoother and sturdier than my newest ones. Are they light? Oh good lord no - they double as anchors

I’ve said it before, but in my opinion even tho the green “E” series Curado’s don’t have all the new technology with computer chips, lighter materials, tighter tolerances, redesigned this and improved that, it’s still the best overall reel made.

Yeah, the green E’s have old “technology” which is just fine.
They just do what they’re supposed to do, every time!

Heck even the Citica E's would compare favorably with many of todays reels and they were a step below the Curados. The D's and E's were really good reels.

I've still got a couple of these old school Curados in use.  And a Citica.

A short resume of Shimano baitcasting reel history.

Curado gen, 2, Bantam Curado, up to E series - Superb, strong, high-quality reels.

Curado I  - ''Let's see if our consumers will complain about reel quality downgrades''

Curado K - consummated, uttermost crap.

The green curados have a strong reputation here on Brazil. I would love to have one on the 70 size.

The Big Lebowski Opinion GIF by PeacockTV

I had the Curado E7, I still have a Chronarch E5 (virtually the same reel), and I have few Ks. I love the old ones but the K has much tighter tolerances and more control over the cast. The only reasons I went to the newer MGLs were weight and how they palm, but my Ks can still handle their own.

The olde E series is a rugges reel for past bass fishing, with heavier lures. The K has a very weak disengaging system and thumb bar. The bearings seem very prone to oxidation, even on freshwater.

Over the years I have worked on more Curado B's than any other reel.  I usually work on about 12-15 during the off season. This year I have only seen 7 but out of all of them I have only seen one that needed to be retired.  They are probably the best longest lasting reel I have ever seen,  more than likely because of how simplistic it is. I could take one apart in my sleep.

As far as the other Curados go, I have owned and worked on all of them since the B and only the Curado I had an issue that bothered me. The K's I have, have been flawless. The G might be favorite. It's sort of the under dog of the bunch. Mine is still going strong and casts a mile. Plus I have a love of Shimano reels from that Era.

Let's see, what do I have. Curado 101D, 201D. Curado 51E, 301E and Curado 71HG. I did in the past own the Curado 201B BSF and the Curado 201E. I sold those years ago and kick myself for not holding on to them. I also did own the Curado 201 I and Curado 201 K models. Traded those in with other various rods and reels to get current generation Metanium 151HGB MGL and Curado 301 HGK.

Current Curado's I own: Curado 151HG DC, Curado 151HG MGL, Curado 71HG MGL, Curado 301 HGK and Curado BFS(left).

I particularly have high standards over my reels. I have a pristine Conquest BFS. Don't use it since it's of lesser quality than the old conquest 51 series.

Kind of curious as to why you think it is lesser quality. I have only held the Conquest BFS in hand and thought it was too small. I also like to use my thumb to stop the line or control it and just didn't feel like this would be easy to do based on how the reel was designed.  In the above picture, I have a Calcutta TE 101GT (US Conquest in it's day). This reel works perfectly for my thumb braking. But in comparison, I felt that the newer Calcutta BFS was made to same quality standards as the old. So what am I missing?

I ended up passing on the Conquest BFS and ordered an Aldebaran BFS from Japan. This reel seemed cheaply made at first but after fishing it most of the year and after taking it apart to service it, it was like working on a well made Rolex watch and fishing with it was a pleasure, especially after catching more fish on it than any other reel I used last year.  My only complaint was that the reel was dirty inside and out, more so than most.

Too much plastic. The plastic window is of extreme low-quality. The plastic side plate, the same, and very prone to get stuck. Older ones had screwable aluminum ones.

Yeah I’d throw that piece of junk in the trash! Matter of fact, send it to me and I’ll dispose of it so you don’t have to waste your time with it.

Not sure what you mean by window?

Also, the reel I held was all aluminum. This was from a review on TT.

One other thing I didn't like on this reel was the line guide.  It sticks out from the frame. It too just didn't feel right.

After seeing this thread, I dug through some boxes because I swore I had a few old Curado's somewhere. Found 3 of them. Two 100B's and a 200B. I know I bought the 100's some 23 years ago. Haven't seen action for quite some time.

Am I sitting on a gold mine here... or a land mine? ?

Yeah? After browsing Ebay, they are in much better condition cosmetically than what I've seen on there. I don't remember how well they cast etc last time I used them. I'm sure they need to be lubed up.

I'm not seeing any of the Bantam CU-100B's on Ebay. Are these more rare? I do see a few of the Bantam CU-200BSF's.

There is a cheap plastic window above the main gear in the frame. A translucent, dark plastic, very cheap. Were you really able to left out of the picture the two things I quoted as downsides for the CQ BFS???? The plastic assembly were the FTB brake is located. Do you need help to find it?

Do they have the dual AR system? (roller and ratchet/trigger)?

I would exchange it for a CQ51 or CQ51S without a second thought.

Here's some closer pics of the 3. The last one has a little more rash than the others. Willing to trade for 2 cartons of eggs.

I still have 4 old the old Curado 200 Es plus 3 of the JDM equivalent Scorpions. They are all in great shape and get used regularly. Primarily for jigs and Texas rigs. After all of these years and new reels these are still my favorites and they perform as good as they did when they were new. I also have several of the 50 Es/Scorpions that have been "repurposed" to BFS with Avail spools. They hold their own with the modern BFS reels to say the least. There is something special about the simplicity and efficiency of the old Shimano centrifugal 6-pin system that is hard to describe but it just flat out works.
