basss Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 So ... some of my belated Christmas presents were waiting for me when I got home yesterday. There is something quite off about it though. For some reason, there is a purple handle retaining nut thingy on it, when the rest of the color accents are red. Whatinthail ... They should have picked one color and done all the accent pieces that one color. Seem weird to you? Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted January 10, 2017 Super User Posted January 10, 2017 Daiwa uses purple to indicate XHS or extra high speed gearing. I agree, us OCD folks can't take the fact that it should all be purple but the handle retainers can be purchased easily for under $10. 1 Quote

Nor-Cal Basser Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 It's a Daiwa thing. The retainer is color coded according to the reel's gear ratio, purple being 8.1:1. It's kind of weird, but I don't mind. It's still a phenomenal reel. Quote
Cyacnba Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 6.3:1 has gold accents. 7.3:1 red accents. 8.1:1 purple accents. Quote

Super User WRB Posted January 10, 2017 Super User Posted January 10, 2017 This must be something new with Daiwa, my 8:1 Tatula type R's have black retainers with red accents. Tom 1 Quote

They will get you the right retainer and your reel will match. lol Bothers me too. Also I match my rod with my reels. So if I have a reel with red accents I need a rod with red accents, or all black. I am currently using a few rods with different colors than the Daiwa reels and it's driving me nuts. Quote

I bought my okuma helios that had blue accents and had to get a blue rod to match. It was on a red one and it didn't look right. I did see that the Daiwa was labeled purple when I bought it, but I thought the whole thing was purple not just the handle keeper. While on the subject the red of the body and the red cast control knob are not even the same hue of red. You CT Type-R owners agree that even the reds don't match? Quote

This is why I stayed away from the Type R. I got the regular CT for this reason. In pictures the red on the reel looks a little more pink to me. The red accents looked really red. 1 Quote

It looks like a pretty close match to the CT R. Quote

Other than that though, I plan on building my other rods. 1 Quote

Super User JustJames Posted January 12, 2017 Super User Posted January 12, 2017 Yeah abit too red, I rather have red spool from reg CT instead of red frame. 1 Quote
