Super User Oregon Native Posted January 9, 2017 Super User Posted January 9, 2017 Dang...that's ugly. 17 here this morning but supposed to warm up a bit. Going to head out once the sun comes out and warms things up a few degrees. Went to Walmart yesterday and got my favorite handwarmers for $5 for a ten pack. One for each pocket. Keeps the pain away in these ol hands somewhat. They seem to put them on sale after the first of the year every year I've been here....so timing is good. Good luck on your trip. 1 Quote

That's funny! Maybe we exaggerate a bit but we don't shut down the whole freaking state for 2" of snow that will melt by morning. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted January 11, 2017 Global Moderator Posted January 11, 2017 It was 37 deg Sunday morning here. When I walked outside at 7:00 I thought my nose was gonna crack off!! Sorry, I had too Mike Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted January 11, 2017 BassResource.com Administrator Posted January 11, 2017 We've had overnight lows below freezing for over a month now (was 21 last night, it will be in the teens tonight). Many of those daytime highs didn't break freezing either. Fortunately for my neck of woods, cold weather = clear skies. So no snow. For warmth while fishing, I use these: Iaconelli told me about these while I was out fishing with him one cold early-spring day. Those things are awesome. 2 Quote

Super User Further North Posted January 12, 2017 Super User Posted January 12, 2017 Cold (or hot) is relative...depends on what you're used to. In January of 2014 (yeah, that winter), I was in Baltimore to judge an industry printing competition. It was in the low single digits below zero over night and about 14° - 15° during the day. I called home one night when a couple of locals were complaining...it was just after sundown and 12° outside...handed them the phone and told them to ask my wife what the temp was...when she told them it was -26°...it sorta put things in perspective. ...but here's the deal: that weather was crazy cold for them...they weren't prepared for it, the didn't have the infrastructure for it, and they were genuinely miserable. It's not my place to tell them they were being wimps...nor...given the norms there...were they being wimps. Quote

tander Posted January 14, 2017 Posted January 14, 2017 I don't see how y'all take that cold, last week it was 17* low, today it is 75* high. As they say, if you don't like the weather now, stick around, it will change. 1 Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted January 15, 2017 Super User Posted January 15, 2017 Been t-shirt weather the last couple of days!!!! Fishing has been good too. I know it's going to change but enjoying it while it lasts. 1 Quote
Super User Sam Posted January 15, 2017 Super User Posted January 15, 2017 C22, let's face it. The more we move southward the worst the winter weather gets as we do not have the plows and other machinery at hand to clear the snow and ice in a fast and efficient manner. Add to this the mix of northern drivers who know how to drive in snow and us southern drivers who think we know how to drive in the snow. Chaos a best. Most school districts have to obey their state's attendance rules that state if one school bus route cannot be used due to inclement weather then the entire school system is shut down until that one route can be reopened and used safely. So in the greater Richmond area our schools were closed last Monday through Thursday until VDOT and the City of Richmond could open all bus routes for safe trips to and from school. Have fun on your fishing trip and let us know how you do, along with photos of what you catch. Quote
frosty Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 Central Indiana has been wonderfully warm (for January) to painfully cold, sometimes all in the same week. It seems the longer I work outside, the less I'm able to deal with the cold. I've noticed the last couple years that I don't recover like I used to. Of course I think a consistently cold winter helps our bodies adjust better than going from-2/10 to mid-50's a couple days later. Quote
"hamma" Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 LOL,..... February is coming!!!! r u ready? Having freaky weather? There's no need to fear, before we know it, April and May will be here and most of us will be out fishing instead of here typing. I on the other hand may be still experiencing, snowfalls, ice storms, and blizzards. I remember a mothers day snowfall of 12 inches of snow, then out fishing three days later in 80 degree weather. Crazy weather is what it is, even Florida gets some freezing temps in winter, little as it may occur, it does. But we are on a bass website, so, do the fish care? Not really, they too are slaves to the barometer, but the effects of such are usually short lived in their liquid domain. A shutdown of the bite will take place, but they do rebound well, and if your lucky enough to hit it right the fishing can be awesome. Good luck this year, I hope your time on the water doesnt include snowfall. Quote
Super User Gundog Posted February 8, 2017 Super User Posted February 8, 2017 This has got to be one of the weirdest winters we have ever had in PA. Today the high is 55 degrees. About 20 degrees higher than the average temp for this time of year. Just watched the weather and they say we should get anywhere between 4" and 12" of snow between midnight tonight and noon tomorrow. Bizarre indeed. 1 Quote
