Bass Smacker Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 I was thinking off getting one of thouse personle pontoon boats but have been wondering how stable they are I would mostly be using it in the Ca Delta in the smaller canales and in some of the lakes around here no big water stuff. Any advice would be helpfull Quote
huskertko Posted June 23, 2006 Posted June 23, 2006 I think I may be one of the few on this site that has one, and my experience has been great. They are very stable and very easy to manuver, once you get the hang of it. I can get to water that a lot of big boats can't, and being able to get there much quieter, I can sneak up on fish. I don't have a truck or vehicle to tow a regular boat, nor the bank account, :'( so I went this route. I mainly fish smaller bodies of water but there are guys who fish large lakes and impoundmnts. I have started to customize my with a depth finder and rod holder, etc. Do a google search for Sonoma Bellyboat club and you can see some pics for some really tricked out boats, and those guys fish a tournament schedule on some large bodies of water. Guest avid Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 What about trailering these boats? I need something that would be less than 18' with the trailer. Anything decent in that range? I really need to change from rowing. I'll miss it, because I actually enjoyed the rowing and it was great cardio exercise but my joints can't take it anymore so I need a new way to get around. My problem is that I live in a gated community where your boat MUST be kept in the garage or off the property. The lake is only about 125 acres so a smaller model is ok. It's the trailer that seems to add alot to the size. any ideas? Quote
Bass Smacker Posted June 25, 2006 Author Posted June 25, 2006 I went to the web sight that Huskertko posted abuve some of those boats have troling moters and it looks like they are on small utility tralers (less than 10 feet) i don't think i will go that far with it but the rod holders depth finder hook ups and cooler/live well set ups will be a must and luck has it theres a link to a bass fishing club that fishes in my home town I was looking at the sight and my jaw about droped off. all the places they fish are the places I was wondering about and then I a ran acrost a list of places that they frequent and there all within 30 min. of me. looks like the first turniment i fish will be on a personle pontoon boat ;D J/M Quote
huskertko Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 I actually don't have a trailer or a truck. I drive a 2000 Mitz Galant, a sedan, and I just put mine on the top of my car and use tie downs to hold it there, granted I don't travel on interstates with it but I feel comfortable drive 55 MPH with it tied down to my car. I keep the D/F, and rod rack and stuff in my car and just put it on the boat at the water. Quote

But doesn't the water you fish have gators?? Wouldn't you be a little worried with a boat like that with your feet dangling in the water?? Quote
