Super User roadwarrior Posted January 8, 2017 Super User Posted January 8, 2017 Plan to fish the Jack Yates Classic (BassResource.com RoadTrip) March 15 through the 20th. If you keep a log and are willing to share some information, I have a few specific questions for this trip. I know things can be affected by weather and rainfall, but right now I looking for suggestions to modify my tackle for the trip. So, "generally" what can we expect? Best location(s) on the lake Depth Structure/ cover Specific lures/ presentations Important colors Quote

Best location(s) on the lake Depth Structure/ cover Specific lures/ presentations Important colors Expect pre-spawn - spawn Fin & Feather located on Housen' Bayou which is centrally located on some of the best waters of the lake. Do some map study of Housen', Indian Mounds, & Six Mile. I would target bank shallow out to 10-12' Structure/cover: personal favorites creek channel coves & buck brush Spinnerbaits, Rat-L-Traps, Texas Rigs, Jigs, Carolina Rigs, Crankbaits, pretty much any & everything! Finding the bass is paramount! Spinnerbaits; white skirt double gold willowleaf Lipless crankbaits; crawfish color Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted January 9, 2017 Posted January 9, 2017 Don't count out fishing deep. ThIs past year on march 25th I caught well over 100 fish and had numerous 4-7lbers all out in 20-25ft. 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 9, 2017 Super User Posted January 9, 2017 Kent, my honest opinion & @Bass_Fanatic will probably agree is that pre-spawn on Toledo Bend pretty much every lure, technique, & location will produce fish. I've read enough over the years about your expertise with a variety of lures & techniques. Bring your personal favorite plastics, spinnerbaits, crankbaits, & for dang sure your Alabama Rigs. Again in my opinion weather will be the determining factor; bring your 100MPH suit, your short pants & t-shirts. Expect everything from dead calm to the nastiest chop you have ever ran in! As we approach the 15th I will try to keep y'all updated what's hot & what's not! 1 Quote

Bass_Fanatic Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 yep. I agree with Catt 100%. Come with an open mind because the whole lake is fair game that time of year. Do what your best at and I promise it'll work out just fine for you. 1 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 10, 2017 Author Super User Posted January 10, 2017 I asked this before, but I can't find the response, so I'm going to ask again: Could you recommend a few guides? Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 RW, I'd be glad to take you one of those days, but as for guides, Darold Gleason, Zack Gagnard, and Jason Courville would be at the top of my list 1 Quote

My brother is coming with me, so if you can accommodate two I would like to take you up on that. However, I probably need to book my guide sometime soon. I know it's early, but it would be very helpful if you could specify a day. -Kent 5 hours ago, Catt said: Stephen Johnson & Butch Covington Thank you! -Kent Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 28, 2017 Author Super User Posted February 28, 2017 How 'bout an update on what's working: Lures, depth, cover/ structure and anything else. Thanks! -Kent 1 Quote
Clinton john Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 Friday before the lil front came through me and my best freindwas catching them on w.m. red strike king caffeine shad swimbait with a silver underspinner swimbait hook, and on black and red flake ribbet frogs, all fish were in 1 to six foot of water holding tight to any and all wood they could find, piles of sticks old tree stumps, even a couple of old fence post. Yesterday and this morning, I found a few bass in the 2 to 4 pound range on sandy points with wood on them with a Bandit 100 in pearl with black back most bites came in five foot of water. Hope this helps sir. 1 Quote

Clinton john Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 Thursday, Friday, and saturday, me and my best freind and my dad layed the hammer on them with ribbett frogs , black with red flake when the sun was shinning and white with chertruese feet when it was cloudy. All bass were in one to two fow in are around buck brush, lay downs with or without some kind of grasseither mixed in are close bye. Sunday afternoon, went out weather is colder so dropped back to points on cove mouths working down to ten fow with bandit cranks and triged watermelon red yum dinggers, fished for three hours had seven bites all bass coming from the ten foot area right off grass, all bass were legal size for keeping but not much bigger. Hope this helps Sir. 1 Quote
