Bags Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 I live in carroll county, I fish anywhere I can. Ive been fishing since I was little,im 50 now. Last Christmas I got my first boat, a 160 bass tracker pro. My son and I love being on the water. Im obviously new to being on the water in my own boat so im a bit nervous on places to go. Im looking for places to lounch from to be able to catch more then sun fish. I went last year in the magothy out of a friends place. Ive been to long arm several times, and fort smallwood once or twice but a liit nervous to get to far out. Looking for advice or places to go in the spring. Quote
Al w. Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 I get a little nervous too on unknown waters. One of the best things that has helped me is a lake chart showing depths, etc. I have Navionics hot maps. It helps me to know where shallow water is that I would not have known without it. Good luck. Al w. Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 I have a Humminbird and have been happy with it (999 with down and side imaging). I imagine Lowrance units are just as good-just kind of what you get used to. There are many others on here who know much more than me. Get what you can afford and make the most of it. Helix units seem to be popular (probably what I'd get if I were in the market). Several versions are out there. Make sure you get one with a card slot to run maps if you choose to get them. A bigger screen is easier to read but unfortunately costs more money. Quote

Super User fishnkamp Posted January 15, 2017 Super User Posted January 15, 2017 Welcome I am from Baltimore MD. If you give me an e-mail at fishnkamp @comcast.net I will happily give you my cell number. I fish lots of places you can go with that boat safely. I also have a friend that has a reservoir only boat that lives in Carroll County as well. Lakes like Long Arm, Redmond, Piney Run, Rocky George, Black Hills, etc. I would be happy to meet you at some of these places with our boats and show you around. I also fish tidal waters over here in Middle River. Quote
