OCdockskipper Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 I like Cliff Crochet as a person, in fact I met his mom on friday at the expo (sweet as could be). However, as a Fantasy fishing choice, he has a really bad habit of a big first day and then sliding down the standings (at least when I choose him). I hope he makes me regret not choosing him and has the biggest bag every day at Toledo Bend... 1 Quote

I like his momentum coming into this - that said, I looked at the previous results for Toledo and JVD has done exceptionally well for a smallmouth guy. I may end up picking him instead, he seems to like this lake. Quote

This next event I'm going more with people who are showing some sort of momentum this year, are good with postspawn fish, can fish offshore, and go shallow if needed. Except I chose Cliff Crochet in bucket D because he's been on a roll and Toledo has enough shallow cover for him to fish for miles to his heart's content. If there is anything I've learned after 3 years of doing this... is don't overwrite the big Mo. To quote the old golf pro Tom Watson, "Sometimes thinking too much can destroy your momentum." It's time to strike while the iron is hot. 1 Quote
MSWV Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 Just finished my picks for Toledo Bend.. I picked the guys I like & want to do good.. hehe 1 Quote
blckshirt98 Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 I'm surprised at the struggles some of the pros (Chris Lane!) are having early this year! Still a lot of fishing to be done still but I'm already wondering about who might get bumped out next year. 2 Quote

Its definitely not a good start for him for 2017 but I'm hoping that he can break that slump with a good showing at Toledo Bend Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted March 28, 2017 Super User Posted March 28, 2017 I had some spare time today and did some extended research, and was pleased to see that the research backed up most of my original gut picks. I did end up changing my D bucket for an angler that has done exceptionally well all three or four of the past times they've been to Toledo. Bye bye Cliff . Bucket B is proving to be the one I'm not certain about...I think the other buckets are good to go for the most part. Kevin Van Dam is the obvious pick; but there's also Edwin Evers, Dean Rojas, Alton Jones, Keith Combs, Casey Ashley, Mark Davis, and Todd Faircloth. I feel all of those guys will do really well here. Decisions, decisions... I'm also really curious to see how David Fritts does here - he has had a fantastic start on the Elite series and the Bend sets up well for him. 1 Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted March 30, 2017 Super User Posted March 30, 2017 Whats yalls overall percentage? Im at 54% a couple years ago I finished like 92%. Somehow I lost my picking ability last couple years....i also do less research. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted March 30, 2017 Super User Posted March 30, 2017 I'm currently at the 76th percentile. Every event I seem to do good, but I haven't had anything spectacular. I need a really good event to jump me up in the standings. Quote
Senko Junkie Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 Im currently at 60.7 %. This is my first year of doing the fantasy fishing so I'm green Quote

SWVABass Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 I'm in the 83.7% right now. Had a decent pick at the big o, and had four fish the final day in the classic. I've done less research and gone back my gut like I did when I was in the 98% a couple of years ago. Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted March 30, 2017 Super User Posted March 30, 2017 60% for me. This year has been awful. Quote
IndianaFinesse Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 62% average, had 92% at Cherokee, bombed okeechobee with only 30 something percent, and got 61% at the classic. Quote

IndianaFinesse Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 Do you guys think it will be an offshore tournament or do you think they'll be fishing grass? Quote

Chris has more wins, but Bobby has more top 10 and 20 finishes despite 44 fewer tournaments listed in the stats on BASS. I'm at 90.6%. After bombing last year, my first season, I'm doing more research this time around, although its hard to tell how much of my current standing is due to that vs. chance. I'm trying out some analyses week-to-week to see how well certain measurable factors predict the point results the best, e.g., overall record, lake history, local proximity, recent success ("momentum"), etc. So far, the strongest predictor I have found (and it's not that strong) has been....ownership percentage. it beats both my own subjective judgments and the "pundit" picks, at least. 1 Quote

Lol I asked @Catt the same question two years in a row about when the Elites will visit Toledo and he always points me to the thread without giving me a direct answer haha! Someone else in the thread told me offshore. Based on the research I've done, I think we'll see guys doing everything. We're talking about Toledo Bend here. You can pick up almost any bait, find some productive water for it, and catch fish. I think we will see some shallow flippers, some people will be throwing chatterbaits and spinnerbaits, some people will be killing them on frogs and buzzbaits, and some people will head offshore to throw football jigs, carolina rigs, and deep cranks. Remember how everyone said at Lake Conroe that there was no way the shallow guys could hold together a winning pattern? All the top 5 on Sunday except Jordan Lee were up on the shallow end of the lake doing their own thing. Point is; don't listen to dock talk. Find people who are doing well and they'll probably find their own deal on the Bend. It's a huge lake. I'm not sure about the whole spawn situation; there will probably be fish in all three stages of spawning. I would imagine a lot of fish have made beds already. If you'd like to get a feel for the lake, Bassmaster's YouTube channel has the episodes from the last two times they visited Toledo. As well, Texas Team Trail has some great videos from their tournaments on the lake. 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted March 31, 2017 Super User Posted March 31, 2017 KVD won last year fishing deep offshore structure! Expect any & everything from bank shallow out deeper. The hottest ticket this year has been a Carolina Rig, see who paid attention! 3 Quote
