And its going to keep getting worse for me, I have zero people in the top fifty. None. They're all going to have to catch a limit of 6 pounders tomorrow just to make the cut. It may not be as dire as it looks. It is looking like the cut line may be around 27/28 lbs, so even guys who are in 30 spots out of the cut will only need a 17 or 18 lb bag to make the cut. Once they are in the cut, if they can back it up with another good day, they can end up in the top 20. Now having 3 or 4 guys finish in the 20's & 30's obviously won't win an event for you, but it will at least negate a bomb. Heck, look at Shaw Grigsby, who is in 95th place with 8-10. He caught but had to release an 8lb fish because he hooked it outside of the mouth while sight fishing. You have to assume that would have been at least a 6 lb cull, meaning he would have been at 14 plus lbs and well within the cutline. The only guys who may be out of contention with making the cut are the last 15 or so. Florida tournaments are so different because of the variance of big fish. It isn't like some of those tournaments where everyone is catching limits of at least 2 lb fish, but the biggest ones are 4 lbs. In those tourneys, there is no room for error. Last years Florida tournament was a great example. Most are aware that after Day 1, Rick Clunn was in 38th & ended up winning. However, you also had Brent Chapman (71st after day 1, ended up in 5th), Cliff Prince (95th after Day one, finished 6th) and Justin Lucas (68th after Day 1, ended up in 12th) make great rebounds while Cliff Crochet went from 3rd to nearly out of the cut, finishing at 46th (of course, I had him on my team). Those jumps are not unusual in Florida. Of Course, I would prefer to have Defoe, Browning, etc as my choices and not have to rely on this upheaval to survive, but such is life... 2 Quote

Super User Montanaro Posted February 24, 2017 Super User Posted February 24, 2017 The live blog is worthless this year. No interesting pics or angler updates from marshalls 1 Quote

Ish and Skeet are my two guys not in the top 20. I was surprised by this as well, but it's fishing and tough days happen. But like mentioned earlier, it's not that hard to go out and bring in a 25-30lb. bag and skyrocket back into the hunt of things. Quote

Super User Senko lover Posted February 24, 2017 Super User Posted February 24, 2017 Jesse Tacoronte was in 78th or something like that yesterday, he's now leading in 1st place. Goes to show that a couple bites can make or break your tournament here. 1 Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted February 24, 2017 Global Moderator Posted February 24, 2017 Dean "the Machine" 2 in the tank for 10-8! He might be on them today. Hopefully he can pick it apart today and bring in a 25-30lb bag. Quote
CTBassin860 Posted February 24, 2017 Author Posted February 24, 2017 Right now I only have kriet above the cut line.I expect Martens will catch his limit and make it through to tomorrow. But only 2 moving on and 1 top 10.Man Quote
Super User MIbassyaker Posted February 24, 2017 Super User Posted February 24, 2017 Meanwhile, according to basstrakk, the current place of the top-owned angler in each bucket: A: Tharp --7th B: Bobby lane -- 12th C: Hackney -- 11th D: Rojas -- 14th E: Chris Lane = 76th 1 Quote

I was surprised Evers held on, I thought 3 of the final 4 to weigh in might bump him out. 1 Quote

Congrats on that Timmy Horton pick, very well done. I bet Clunn's sponsor's really appreciate him not weighing in. I know it may be embarrassing for a legend like Clunn to do poorly & he may get bored with the weigh in process, but I think not showing up is a bad move. Heck, go up to the weigh-in with an empty bag & big smile and proceed to tell the folks what DIDN'T work the past few days. I know it is easy for me to say not being in their position, but it does seem like some of the more seasoned pro's get very cynical & rote about the process, having completely forgotten why they got into the sport in the first place. Super User Montanaro Posted February 25, 2017 Super User Posted February 25, 2017 Clunn didnt get into the sport for the fans...he got into it to whoop bass. Not whooping bass for a perfectionist like himself would be embarassing and he has enough clout to not worry about missing weigh in. 1 Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted February 25, 2017 Super User Posted February 25, 2017 Honestly, to me when the guys go "threw a THIS BRAND LURE all week long. Didn't get those good bites to make the cut but sure had fun with THIS BRAND lure" it's lame. Just admit you didn't catch them and move on lol. 1 Quote
