Like any fantasy, there's always chance - sometimes the best anglers completely zero. Sometimes the best plan goes down the drain. There's not much you can do about that.

My general strategy is to do a lot of research on the lake. Look at current guide reports, look at weather conditions, look at the lake forage, hot baits, etc. I then come up with a list of anglers that I know that do well under those conditions or with certain types of bodies of water and the like. I keep a running spreadsheet of anglers grouped with results under geographic areas, "tough" or "slugfest" tournaments, types of lakes, strengths, weaknesses, history, etc.

Then, I research previous Bassmaster and FLW tournaments on that body of water. If any of the anglers I came up with have done well previously there, they end up on my roster. If there's no history on the lake, like this next event on Cherokee, then I focus on local anglers and mix in a couple dark horses. HINT: there's some solid sticks in the E bucket that are a steal because they just joined the elite series.

I also will youtube fishing videos on that lake. I specifically want to know in general what types of baits and structure and water depth will dominate the event.

Yeah, I'm a nerd ;)

I wish I had that kind of time but unfortunately I don't at this point. Just like with fishing in general there is skill and a little bit of luck mixed in. I did take the obvious (IMO) in bucket E. Good luck to you and good luck to everyone. It would be cool if someone in our group could win a gift card or better yet the boat!

Given the time, energy, and money that I have invested in fantasy football over the years I can relate.  I figure since I haven't done a baseball or nascar league in a couple years I may as well give this a shot. Nothing to lose (except my sanity). I may be one of those guys that'll bet on just about anything.

It's free and fun and there's a chance to win a boat and/or gifts cards! Can't beat it!

I really don't spend that much time on it haha, especially this year. I barely have time for fishing these days.

I'm clueless for which pros specialize in what, I don't even watch the tournaments, but it sounds fun so I'll give it a shot.  The B bucket is a tough one, I don't see very many clear water pre spawn guys in there (that I'm aware of).

I pay attention to the tournaments but my knowledge is very limited. They way I look at it, is as a free form of gambling. Given the amount of people who play the chances are slim but there is that chance and it costs you nothing. Something to pass the time during the blah Michigan winter.

Welcome aboard. I tank every year so you don't have to worry about me taking anything from ya.

I wonder if this thread should be pinned or moved to "tournament talk" so it doesn't get lost?

It would be cool if it would get pinned, to try and get more people interested in fantasy fishing. It's free who wouldn't want to play? I'm no good at it, but that slim chance at a $2500 Bass Pro ($3k I'm a Bass member) is enough for me.

I've given up a LOT of hundreds of hours to fantasy sports over the years with mixed results....my fantasy fishing will have to remain the kind where I can't sleep the night before an outing because I'm imagining all the hot spots and hooksets....and then hit the wall of reality by getting skunked 12 hours later

9 days until the first Elite event. Still plenty of time to sign up!

If you're interested in joining the BassResource league just ask or scroll through the thread and we'll help you out.
