Pretty cool. Did they give you a whole year? I've been a member for many many years. I just renew at the longest cheapest span I can. Good deal.

I'm not sure.I was on the site to see but all I ended up doing was starting fantasy fishing.

I'm not a real tournament fisherman (small time stuff) but have fished them over the years. Back when I was a young guy 18-20 years old, this was a time that I was making a transition to fishing for bass exclusively with lures. I attribute this conversion to BASS Master magazine back in the late 70's - early 80's. The subscription has changed over the years but I can't honestly say if it has gotten better or worse. I just enjoy getting it every month.

Even though I already have a BASS membership, I too received a complimentary membership issue today.  It was mailed to my work address instead of my home address, so I am assuming that is why I didn't come up in their records as already being a member.

On the label, it says "N/D18", so I am assuming it is a 2 year membership that expires with the November/December 2018 issue.  I may call BASS and see if they can freeze the remaining years of my original membership and have them start it back up when this complimentary one ends.

I wonder who came to who with this marketing program.  Did BPS do it to drive continued interest in the activities that use the products they sell in their stores or did BASS do it to drive up circulation numbers?

I get it from them too.  It means you're spending too much money there.  That's what my wife says anyway.

I got mine yesterday, and was actually surprised that the issue is all about finesse fishing. I was a B.A.S.S. member for many years, but let the membership run out when I stopped tourney angling. So it was a surprise, and yet kinda a downer as well. I used to look forward to the magazine, and its info, tips, and tricks. It had become a intrical part of my life, filling idle moments. It did have alot of "southern" impoundment info, as,.. well lets face it, thats where most of the bigger tourneys take place,...(or should I say TOOK place).

I would read about some new technique and attempt to emulate that to "my" areas waters up here,... and let me tell you,.. it wasnt easy. Many,.many,... hours, and dollars, I put forth, trying to copy the pro's direction. No matter what "it" was,... I tried. It took a long time for me to see that the direction I was receiving needed some "help".,... Some techniques did work, but they were easily identified, and stowed away in memory as a success. It was the unsuccessful that really stood out. Much like in life, the victories are well known, but easily forgotten, where as failures burn for a long time, and are seldom forgotten at all.

I hold no claim as a "pro" by any means. But those "self tweaked" techniques that I made work for me? were well learned. And the techniques I did successfully learn from the mag's pages, that were well documented in my memory? are all, in fact, lessons learned just the same.

All of this I offer freely, as I remember those days of struggle. My "passion" for the sport is mine, and mine alone, I understand that I may have this passion, but others may not. Nonetheless,...I would rather help someone struggling with the desire to learn this sport, than to standby watching someone drown in the sea of endless gear, techniques, situations, and basics. And lets be real,..there is a endless amount of basics alone, when one enters this realm. My victories, and failures, yes,.... are mine. But if they can help someone, even just one person? I'll be there for them,.,..

For I know all to well the strife, of spending endless hours, floating (uncomfortably) in a sunbaked canoe, in the middle of a bug, and snake infested swamp. Learning about line twist, proper line weights, line watching,,...right place, right lure, right time.,....sunburn, or I should say sun poisoning!, the importance and cautions of deet, scents. Proper rigging of baits, flipping, pitching, skipping,.AND! OMG!,...... l e a r n i n g , . . t o , . . c a s t , . . a BAITCASTING  REEL!!!,.....lol,  (can ya tell I had trouble there?),... polorized sunglasses, white meshed baseball caps, hydration, etc, etc, etc,.. All learned the hard way!,.... and the list goes on.

So,..In summary,...thank you BPS for my complimentary subscription.  Thank you, Bassmaster for the years and years of direction, inspiration, and hope,... But most of all?

Thank you Bass Resource,. for the opportunity to help those that need it, the opportunity to interact with like minded, and most of all,..the endless amount of info that we all, yes,.. we "all" need.

Nicely stated.

My subscription ran out a while back, but over the years I had it, I learned quite a bit.

Don't really see the need now as the information highway seems to have replaced it.

btw - I see that the new year has you decreasing your post lengths -

Congrats right there

No complimentary issues received here yet, but I'm not heartbroken over it ? Cancelled my I-F subscription in 2002 after the Lindner's sold out and left, and Bassmaster a few years later (after 20+ years) when I stopped tourney fishing, about the time marketing and ad space started getting out of hand. I still appear in a few issues of both mags now and then, especially online stories (just mentioned in a B/M story that got published to their site yesterday), but those I just try and buy off the shelf when it happens. I did get a BPS master catalog though...

There may not have actually been any - that may have been a bit of a not so subtle subliminal suggestion

It's all good Hanma ~  I for one true enjoy reading your posts & responses (regardless of length) and can often relate closely to your perspective.

Been a "life member" of BASS for many years...so long ago they send me their "Bass Times" publication as well as their Bassmaster magazine.

ESPN bought BASS back in 2001, and for me, it hasn't been the same...not like it was when Ray Scott was in charge.

I still enjoy the articles and tips, but it seems more "commercialized" than back in the old days...more ads than info.

I wrote to B.A.S.S. about me having a duplicate membership since BPS gave me the 2 year complimentary one in addition to my current one.  They responded quickly and said they would extend my membership by the length of the BPS membership (2 years).  I was impressed...

ESPN (parent company Disney) bought BASS, LLC.  in 2001 and that purchase included three publications

Bassmaster

Bass Times

Fishing Tackle and Retailer

In 2010, ESPN sold BASS, LLC to private investors Don Logan, Jerry McKinnis and Jim Copeland.

Jerry McKinnis, is well-known to bass anglers as one of the pioneers in television fishing shows. McKinnis hosted The Fishin' Hole, which aired over ESPN from 1980 until 2007, making it the network's second-longest running show. On the program, McKinnis introduced the Ranger boat, an innovative fishing rig at the time, to his viewers.

Logan is former chairman and CEO of Time Inc., who later served as chairman of Time Warner's Media and Communication's Group where he oversaw America Online, Time Warner Cable and Time Warner Book Group before retiring in 2002.

Copeland retired as U.S. and Global CEO of financial services company Deloitte in 2003 and currently serves on the boards of three Fortune 500 companies.

I think there's something brewing between Bassmaster and BPS. I think this is what Jerry was hinting at in his latest article.

The Bass Pro Shops Elite Series?  They already are the title sponsor all of the opens, I wonder if they gain anything by doing more or even buying B.A.S.S.

If they did, I bet it would change the items offered when you get or extend a BASS membership.  Nothing but BPS baits... :D
