Anyone own this reel?  Thoughts?  I like the OG Zillion frame much more than the T-wing stuff. I know wveryone wants a lighter reel these days but im thinking of trying one of these

I have one on the way as we speak...not sure with all the new models for 2017 if they will be still produced.  That's the OG Zillion and original (but aluminum) TD-Z and Fuego frame too.

It's a very overlooked reel and I'm not sure why. My guess is due to its weight.

I bought one early last year. I also love the OG Zillion platform.  The SV spool is nice and the reel over all casts exceptionally well with all weight ranges. I don't see the reel's weight being a big deal. If you like the OG Zillion you will love the SV103.  By the way, I was able to get a deal on mine for $230.00 so that made the decision easy.

Tackle warehouse has the 5.3:1 gear ratio for $199 right now plus 10% off gift cards.. unless that is a different reel.  Hard to tell with all of daiwas names.

Ok that makes sense.  I'm assuming the weight of the reg sv103 is much higher?  that was confusing me haha.

yes. different frame.  The SV103 should have been called the zillion SV103. Would confuse a lot less people. It's based on the original zillion frame that everybody loves.

Do you think the SV103 will be a mainstay in the lineup after 2017 with the introduction of the SV Tatula CT, Fuego CT, etc.?  The Tatula TWS SV is the same price as the SV103.  Mine should arrive Monday and if it is that good, I may order another.  That platform is a classic frame.

Where are you getting the pricing for the new tatula sv that isn't out yet?

There isn't a Tatula TWS SV available as of yet. I believe you are referring to the Zillion SV TW which is the same price as the current SV103. The sv103 (OG zillion frame) and Zillion SV TW are not the same frame. The Zillion SV TW shares the same frame as the Tatula CT. The SV103 is definitely a classic frame. The Tatula CT frame hasn't been out for more than a year.

I hope the SV103 or at least the frame will continue to have models built on it. Aside from the Steez SV TW, the Td-Z frame/OG Zillion is by far the most comfortable to use.

Seems to me that a reel weighing more than 6 oz. is just too much for many to consider as a viable option anymore.  Light is nice, but a favorite of mine happens to be a Zillion 50th Anniversary.  No problem with its weight...and I am an old fart that hasn't exercised in years.

I'm pretty much done buying reels....with the occasional exception.  From what I have read, the SV103 will be one of those exceptions.

Yes, sorry meant to say Zillion TWS SV.  I know the Zillion SV and Tatula CT share a similar platform so I wonder with the Tatula SV release this year (based on the CT) what the price/sales of either model will be.

My guess would be in the $199 range for the tatula ct sv.

I think it would be more popular if they had named it that.  All the SS, SV, TWS, 103, 105, TW, CT....naming gets confusing for people who don't keep up with Daiwa lingo.

Got that right brother.  I've got quite a few Daiwa reels and probably have less than half the various models available over the last 15 years.  Alphas models alone include...F, Purple, ito Ai, SV and I am no doubt missing others out there.  Not to mention models based on the Alphas such as the Sol.

I am beginning to wonder if Daiwa can keep them straight!  Maybe they have limited english skills so they do not know any other letters in the alphabet exist!:lol-045:

They are not considered viable to many because its technology. Most buying a under 5oz rod and don't want to stick a 8oz reel on one end of it.  The lighter the entire setup adds sensitivity and as some say makes for better "balance".

I'm sure if someone loved a certain reel sure the weight would be less of a factor.

This is just my view I might be wrong though. :)

I can see a lighter rod being more sensitive, but have a hard time seeing how a reel would affect sensitivity.   Maybe a person can feel a bite thru the reel, but then I don't notice a lot of small things like many do.  I'm not going to claim a light reel doesn't increase sensitivity just because I don't have the ability to discern it.  You could be 100% right.

Yeah i guess the weight is an issue for some. I used to not care until i started fishing some lighter weight rods, etc but i dont think this reel would be a deal breaker for me.

The reel that is on sale is the SS SV103. What is the difference? Looks like a lower gear ratio, which is what I am looking for. It's also 2 oz lighter than the SV103.

Both the SSSV103 and SV103 are on sale. 2 different reels.

Right. But people seem to be glowing over the SV103 but not so much over the SS SV103. I know they're different reels - just wondering about the quality.
