CTBassin860 Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 BPS was out of 30# PP small spools and didn't feel like dropping 50 bucks on 500 yds. So I picked up some 832 for a change.Never used it before.Any pros or cons to the 832 or is it pretty much on par with the PP? Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted January 4, 2017 Super User Posted January 4, 2017 Good stuff. Seems to run a bit larger in diameter for the same labeled breaking strength, at least the few lower wt. spools I've bought did. More strands in the weave if I'm not mistaken compared to base PP, which makes it rounder and smoother overall. Gore fiber built into the mix which PP doesn't have. Seems to be pretty popular and well liked - no complaints from me, and I'd certainly buy again. -T9 1 Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted January 4, 2017 Super User Posted January 4, 2017 I like both. I do not think any braid out there is better at cutting down lily pads than 50 to 65 pound Power Pro. It works like a weed eater. I use a lot of 832 for other purposes and it plays very well. I do not think you will be anything but pleased with that line in 30 pound test. I use some 10 pound, 20 pound and 30 pound 832 and then 50 and 65 pound test Power Pro. 4 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted January 4, 2017 Super User Posted January 4, 2017 I've been spooling up with 832 for a couple of seasons now. It's on 3 or 4 casting outfits and All of my spinning gear. PP was my braid of choice prior to the switch. I never had a "problems" with the PP, just wanted to try the "New Line". I like it. And although the manufacturer's published line diameters indicate the PP is a couple of hundredths of a millimeter thinner than the 832, I haven't recognized this to be a factor one way or the other. I think the 832 handles a little better especially in the long run. That being said, and since the price for each is relatively close (I think the Sufix is perhaps a little more) I'd say you can't go wrong with either one. Deal is that these braids usually last several season so I'm probably not going to need to pick one way or the other for some time. A-Jay 2 Quote
SFL BassHunter Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 Sufix was the second braid I used after Spiderwire. Spiderwire was a complete failure. I could snap that 30lb line with my hands. Switched to sufix and thought it was ok.Though it did dig into itself more than I liked. Switched to Power Pro and I love it. Less digging in my opinion. Also cheaper. Walmart has the best prices on PP I have seen. Well worth it. Quote
CTBassin860 Posted January 4, 2017 Author Posted January 4, 2017 The 832 was actually a dollar cheaper 1 Quote
DenhamBruce Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 I'll take 832 over PowerPro any day. Basically take any 8 strand braid over a 4 strand braid in general for me. 2 Quote
Cranks4fun Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 Both have performed well for me but I like 832 better on a bait caster. I still have 30 Lb. power pro on three rods and 40Lb. test 832 on my frog/ toad rod. Both are good but Power Pro runs cheaper here ($13 a spool Wally World) and 832 is about $19 a spool? I think. Anyway, the 832 looses its color over time but it casts and performs wonderfully. I've fished Ribbit Frogs on 832 through some of the nastiest weed beds and that Sufix stuff hauls the big girls right out. I have 30 lb. Power Pro on a 4000 series Shimano Sedona spinning rod for fishing light worms in coontail weed mats. I also have it on two bait casters. It works fine but it is just a little noisy. I also have a new 30lb. test spool of Sufix Performance Braid that I got on sale ($7.00) but I haven't put it on anything yet. Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted January 4, 2017 Super User Posted January 4, 2017 I prefer the 832 over regular PP. Like the 8 strand over the 4 strand for sure. Color fades as stated above. This was my go to braid till I tried P-Line TCB Braid 8. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted January 4, 2017 Super User Posted January 4, 2017 I like both and get whichever is on sale. Further where I live, PP is more expensive in my local shops. If I had to choose, I tend to favour PP. Even if it is less strands, still holds up great! Quote
blckshirt98 Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 832 is good stuff, you won't be disappointed. I use mostly PP and 832, whichever I can find on sale, both get the job done. Quote
bholtzinger14 Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 I have power pro on one reel and 832 on 2 reels right now. I have 3 reels I need to put braid on when I have time and it will be 832 that I put on them. Quote
Landis Carrier Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 I'm not a braid expert but I really like the 832. Quote
Super User Angry John Posted January 4, 2017 Super User Posted January 4, 2017 I used 832 and performance braid. The reviews and my experience say that the gore fiber is not very helpful and the regular performance braid is better than 832 in my eyes. The 4 carrier PP is the standard and if your worried about cutting vegetation then it works the best. For the same reason it makes noise threw the guides and some people don't like that. Each line works better in some situations and for most applications I like the 8 carrier braids. Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted January 4, 2017 Super User Posted January 4, 2017 I have both spooled on different reels right now. If you held a gun to my head and made me choose I'd probably take the 832. It's 8 strand vs 4 in PP so IMO it's smoother casting. I feel 832 fades a little less but I don't really care about that. Usually I'm changing the line before the braid turns "white" like some guys experience. Like others have said since PP is slightly rougher due to the 4 carrier, it cuts vegetation a little better, so I have that on my frog rod. 1 Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted January 4, 2017 Super User Posted January 4, 2017 832 is smoother and quieter than regular power pro. Regular pp was my choice until I switched to 832. Now I've switched to j braid though. Same benefits of 832 but it's a good bit cheaper. 1 Quote

I spooled the rest of my PP from my Orra winch to my PQ so I could use the faster reel for frogging and use the winch for cranking.I sense a new Falcon Bucoo in my future. Quote

Walmart is the place to go for it. 13 or 14 bucks for the spool. At least at my Walmart. Either way, don't think you'll go wrong with either brand. Quote
sgibby88 Posted January 5, 2017 Posted January 5, 2017 ive never used 832 but I went to pp from spiderwire and pp hasn't let me done. I use 30lb and 50lb and about to pick up some 65lb. Thinking about trying the max quarto but was also thinking about trying the 832 Quote

Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted January 5, 2017 Super User Posted January 5, 2017 Id use 832 over reg PP but as a whole 832 is down on my list like 6-7 place, solid line though. Low enough to where I wont but any more of it. Quote
