Being anxious,I got the Curado spooled with 30# Sufix 832 since BPS was out of 150 yd spools of Power Pro in 30.Decided to do some flipping in the living room. Was getting 25 feet with a 4" pit boss and 1/8 oz tungsten.I was excited about ZERO backlash on 30# braid until I realized that the 4/0 hook, bait and weight was about .450 oz.Had all 4 internals on and the side brake set at 3.Even so I was impressed. How light have you guys gone on this reel and how do you have your brakes set on it?

Lol!  Ok, so let's assume we're talking about pitching.

Got my Curado 70 about a month ago and haven't used it a WHOLE lot... still tinkering around with the brakes.  Right now, I've got a Bitsy Flip jig and small plastic chunk... guessing I'm at about 3/8oz.  I've tried it with all brake settings but don't know that I've developed a preference yet. 25 ft is no problem. I still get a little backlash, but I suspect it's mostly because of the 30# flouro and cold temps.

I love it so far.  Plan to spool with some 25#, which should help.  Have a feeling I'll be able to pitch a 1/2oz jig a quarter mile with this thing.

I think you are referring to pitching vs. flipping. no backlash ever when flipping!

I definitely wasn't pitching

Are you sure you know the difference? Considering flippin' doesn't use the reel to let out line, I would find it odd to start a post about how well a reel works for the technique.

I guess what I call flipping is pitching without holding the bait in my hand.

Lots of people call it that. Everyone always talks about flippin' but about 90% of the time if you watch them they're actually pitchin'. Pitchin' is the same whether you keep the bait in your hand or not it's a pendulum type motion swinging the bait out and away from you.

The lightest thing I've fished is a 3.5" tube with a 1/8oz head. It will cast it way further than I can effectively set the hook with 2 in and 2 out.

When pitching i've got brakes and spool control all the way off. you may occasionally get some over spool but never a backlash. if so, you need to ease up. if i get a loop that's buggin me, i just make a 1/2 cast into the open, reel it up and keep goin. And whenever i move spots i make a cast to clear any loops. turn em off or all in and try to go easy/smooth you'll get same distance and less trouble.
