Super User everythingthatswims Posted January 3, 2017 Super User Posted January 3, 2017 Today was pretty miserable weather wise, windy and rainy with air temps in the low 40s, but my little brother and I decided to take the boat out to see how our new fishfinder would do. We went 3 hours without a bite, and he finally landed one on a blade bait. From there we pieced the puzzle together and managed to land 9 largemouth, and a bonus walleye! I also discovered that largemouth will still hit the Alabama rig even in 40 degree water, which is encouraging. Had to call it a day when our fingers weren't functional enough to change the trolling motor battery . Wet, cold fingers and wind are a bad combo! 11 Quote

TravisVirginiaAngler Posted January 20, 2017 Posted January 20, 2017 In Richmond VA we had a warm day 2 days ago. After all our ponds and lakes thawed out from a week's freeze, it slowly started to warm, but we had one particularly warm day, 60 degrees with 30mph winds which was just perfect for fishing. Murky water and strong currents in a large pond I hit but I still snagged a 3.2 pounder and 2 smaller bass in 2 hours. I was slow retrieving a bagley balsa wood squarebill shallow, with a bright color pattern and it couldn't have been a better selection. 4 Quote

The only bodies of water in VA that I know have spots in them are the James River, Claytor Lake, Gaston, New River, and South Holston. I have never caught a spot in VA, my first was when I went to Kentucky Lake. Now I have caught plenty here in WV. 1 Quote
