Puggz Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 Happy new year everyone! I like to make up my C-Rig snells in advance but I'm struggling to find a decent storage solution. I'm currently using a lindy rig storage spool but they don't work that well with the large offset hooks. Ideas anyone? Quote
Logan S Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 I've done it with a piece of one of those round foam pool noodles. You can just poke the hook into the foam, wrap line around it and then poke the swivel in. Holds them pretty well but will crumble/deteriorate after a while in the boat, one noodle will make many rig holders though so just replace as needed. I think it's more trouble than it's worth and don't keep pre-made rigs anymore...But the foam noodle works well if you're going to do it. Quote
scbassin Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 I use a piece of pipe insulation & keep them on the inside. I store it in a rod locker. y Quote
Todd2 Posted January 1, 2017 Posted January 1, 2017 The pool noodle trick worked for me for many years for the traditional setup until I switched to using Carolina Keepers. I haven't looked back since using them. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 1, 2017 Global Moderator Posted January 1, 2017 I prefer to leave my C-rig supplies in my box and fish something else. If I'm fishing it I'd rather tie a fresh leader so I don't have to worry about if anything happened to it while it was in storage. 2 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted January 1, 2017 Global Moderator Posted January 1, 2017 For the guys who don't own a boat the Carolina Keeper is really your only option unless you just roll it up on any piece of round material and stuff it in your bag someplace assuming you have room. Mike Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 2, 2017 Super User Posted January 2, 2017 The cardboard from a roll of toilet paper works perfectly. Store it in a plastic sandwich bag and you are good to go! 1 Quote
Puggz Posted January 2, 2017 Author Posted January 2, 2017 Ah I found what I'm looking for. Its called Rigrap... Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted January 2, 2017 Super User Posted January 2, 2017 While I don't pre-make carolina leaders I have pre-rigged ones for ice fishing and I also use the pool noodle trick. I actually store them length wise though so the leaders are perfectly straight when I take them off with no coiling. Quote

I just keep an extra spool of all purpose mono line with me and make them up as needed. It is just a heavier sinker, a swivel, and a bead for the most part. They are a pain to tie due to time (similar to a drop shot) but I use them so rarely that I don't bother to tie them up in advance. Quote
Onvacation Posted January 2, 2017 Posted January 2, 2017 I'm lazy. I use the Strike King EZ rigs so all I need to carry is a 200 yard spool of line. Quote
Puggz Posted January 3, 2017 Author Posted January 3, 2017 Just bought a 4 pack of Rigraps. I'll do a 18", 24", 36", and 48" rig with a swivel already attached. Seems pretty easy and a lot nicer than an old ass-wipe tube sitting in my TB...lol Quote
Super User Cgolf Posted January 3, 2017 Super User Posted January 3, 2017 I pre tie my stuff, c rigs, DS, walleye spins, etc and put them in small ziploc style bags for medicine that can be found at Walgreens near the pill boxes. I then store these in fly fishing leader wallets, I really like the Orvis ones. 1 Quote
"hamma" Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 When I was tourney fishing I used a tacklewrap, just marked the bags with the lengths of leaders with a sharpie, and had one bag designated to swivels, weights and beads in the front. and to make it even easier and quicker,.. I put a weight, swivel and bead in much smaller ziplocks. That were put in that front bag. Nowadays? I just make up a leader as need be. If Im to c-rig,(which is rare) I'm going to be retying anyways, and Im in no hurry, so I just use the line thats on the rod im going to use,.. as to not "need" a spool of line tangling up anything. The slightest bit of moisture will deteriorate those paperboard boxes line spools come in. My best, and most expensive combo is my c-rig rod, but it also doubles as a worm/jig rod as well, and usually has either of them on it. As I choose much like Bluebasser to fish other lures for that domain. Quote
