Received a JM Carbonlite 6'-6" Medium Light Fast baitcasting rod for Xmas.  Looking forward to trying it out - will be in Florida in a month.

For those of you that have one, can you provide a review for me - what does this rod excel at, what are its limitations?  Recommended reels, line, lures with it?

Thanks!

I don't have that particular model, but I would think that rod would excel with finesse plastics and hard baits too as long as you pair it with a capable reel and light line.  I use my ML rod/pixy for ned rigs, grub/jig head, x rap 8's and shad raps.  What reel are you using?

Got one and love it. I swap my 50e between it and
a 6'6" MH Carbonlite.

The ML excels at casting wacky, mojo, split shot,
cranks, and so on. It's a versatile rod. I can throw

very light baits like 4" GYCB Shad Shape Worms,

4.75" unweighted Zoom Finesse worms on a light

wire hook.

Sounds awesome.  I have wondered how the medium would compare to the medium lite.  Same length but kind of like what you describe in the ML.

The alphas sv is a great choice.

Is the "Alpha" a former model, and is the current model an SV103 or SV105?

The alphas sv is the current jdm version of the sv105.  Both are based on the alphas platform, but the alphas sv can be purchased from japanlureshop or digitaka for under $200.  The only difference is the sv105 has 2 more bearings which I believe are knob bearings.  I added 2 bearings to my knobs which cost a couple bucks and now it has the same bearing count.  In the end, I don't think the extra bearings made a noticeable difference.  The sv103 is a totally different reel which is based on the original zillion platform.  For your intended use, I'd choose the alphas sv over the sv 103.

I picked up a SV105 during a BF sale and have it on a Go Emotion ML rod and so far have been having a blast with it.  The SV reel has been amazing, as advertised I can tie on a 5' senko, set the breaks to max and cast it straight up in the air and let the bait hit the ground with no backlash, just a few loose coils.  It is less forgiving when you have the break sent to a more reasonable level, but it is great to have that option when trying to throw jerkbaits into the wind.  If you hunt around ebay you can find the JDM version for under $200 pretty regularly.
