TriCityBassin' Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 Hello guys. I am looking to add and upgrade my gear this winter for next year. I am a HUGE finesse guy and have let my big stuff lag behind. I want to spend time this year punching, frogging, swimbaiting and throwing A-rigs. I really haven't given these the time needed to get proficient. Being an Ex Tournament guy, I have a hard time with multi use setups. I already have a CarrotStix Wild Black 7'6" Heavy XF that i use for punching and frogging. I think i need 1 more to frog because if I am punching I am most likely frogging the same water. So I just bought another 7'6" H XF. Then on to the A-rig, swimbaits and C-Rigs. Can i use the two punch/frog set ups for this? If i am out rigging, etc I wouldn't be frogging. Can i use an XF action for ARigs and big swimbaits/glide baits? UGGGGGGG I am ruined because I want to have dedicated retrieve speeds, lines and actions. Bait monkey messing with my head!!! I really don't think i need 4/5 heavy/Xheavy setups to do this. I have kids now...not made of money anymore but I am not good at SwissArmyKnife Fishing. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 31, 2016 Global Moderator Posted December 31, 2016 You need a combo for every technique. Changing.baits is a pain. Try to do a flip when you jump off the ledge. 9 Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted December 31, 2016 Super User Posted December 31, 2016 It's only money and you can't take it with you. Buy what makes you happy and smile. 1 Quote
fvogel67 Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 I can't help you......I dropped over 300$ today at Cabelas lol 2 Quote

Super User WRB Posted December 31, 2016 Super User Posted December 31, 2016 You are not going to use A-rigs and swimbaits where you frog and punch rig fish at the same time. 2 long heavy rods and reels with braid should take care of frogging and punching at the same time. A-rigs are seasonal when baitfish are schooling and swimbaits tend to be more open water areas with large size baitfish. You can use 1 outfit for both rigs and swimbaits by using a gaulity snap to change lures as needed. Bottom line 3 outfits will get it done. Tom 1 Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted December 31, 2016 Super User Posted December 31, 2016 Most guys like moderate or mod fast actions for punching. If you would have gone with a heavy power rod with a mod fast action you would have a punching/ A-rig/ Glide bait rod. 1 Quote
dwardmba Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 About the kids.... They are going to eventually need rods. It makes sense for them to get hand me down rods... So if you don't have enough rods today to hand down to them in the future it would be the responsible thing to do to go buy some, so when they are ready you are ready. And frankly, kids can't learn with swiss army knife type of rods. I mean really, you can't expect a nine year old to learn the subtle nuanced chunk, sink, & crank of an A rig with a frog rod. 1 Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted December 31, 2016 Super User Posted December 31, 2016 This shouldn't be news to you, but you came to the wrong place for help with that ledge...........unless you want to be pushed off. Kids can do that to you. 1 Quote
je1946 Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 The best way to ease some of the pain is to try and find some used rods. There's a flea mkt section here on this sight. Go to where you usually buy your rods and pick one out you like than try to find one used. Most people selling will text back and forth with you about the equip they have, regarding the condition and it's function. Gd luck. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 31, 2016 Super User Posted December 31, 2016 I don't think you are going to be satisfied with multi-purpose rods. However you might take a look at this: http://www.bassresource.com/fishing_lures/DHC7-761-CAHFS-primmus-review.html Quote

Tom x 2 ... 7-6 h fast for me on the swimbait rod.... up north and i usually don't throw giant swims....which is another setup all together Quote
Super User burrows Posted December 31, 2016 Super User Posted December 31, 2016 What do you use currently for your finesse applications? Just curious? Quote
bigfruits Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 buy used and sell used if you dont like and you should break even. 15 hours ago, TriCityBassin' said: Can i use an XF action for ARigs and big swimbaits/glide baits? try it out and see how you like it. if its too cold to fish, drive out to the water for an hour just to test baits/rods. its all personal preference but i like fast or moderate fast for moving baits. 1 Quote

JDM Shimano Soare BB 2500 on a Fenwick Elite Tech Dropshot rod for dropshotting. I never take that bait off that rod. JDM Shimano Ultegra Advance 2500 on a Shimano Cumara M for shakey head, finesse jigs and finesse Carolina Rigs. JDM Shimano Ultegra Advance 2500 on a Johnny Morris carbonlite 7' ML for slider worms, doodling, really light subtle techniques. All 8-15lb braid/PE with a top shot of flouro. Poundage of the top shot depends on where/what/cover I am fishing of course. I want one more set up, I still have all my old Symmetre's on Fenwicks but I am LOVING the JDM Shimano stuff...mind blowing and BEAUTIFUL. No, i guess i didn't really expect to be talked off the ledge lol. BUT i come here bc in my day to day life i have no one as obsessed with fishing as me. No one who will talk fishing all day or spend an hour discussing one bait. i could get all the setups eventually....but i am also impatient. 2 Quote

I use snaps on my crankbaits already, great option! i don't know why more people don't use snaps. I have NEVER had a snap fail. 7 minutes ago, WRB said: Irod IRG754F Freds Magic 7'5" rod can do most of your presentations effectly.
