hoosierbass07 Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 So, have any of you seen the new Star Wars film Rogue One? I won't give any spoilers. I will say this: I'm a big Star Wars fan and this movie is awesome! I've seen it twice now and the second time was even better than the first. There are so many cool things in this movie I can't talk about them because it would spoil it. But oh oh oh, are they so cool. This is where I put Rogue One on the list of great Star War films. 1. Empire Strike Back -the best and one of the greatest films ever. 2. Star Wars A New Hope (the first Star Wars film). This film started it all. 3. Rogue One! Yes, Rogue One is even better than Return of the Jedi. 4. Return of the Jedi. I would put this film above Rogue One if it were not for the Ewoks. Those Ewoks don't age well on film. 5. The Force Awakens. All five are great films but Empire Strike Back and Rogue one are extremely great. In fact, Rogue One might even be better than the first Star Wars film. Rogue One is a war film more than anything. Critics have said the third act of the film is worth the admission alone and I agree. The third act blew me away. If you haven't seen it yet and are thinking about it, definitely go. It's worth it and it's now my favorite movie of 2016. 2 Quote
Todd2 Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 I took my son and we liked it. I was never a diehard Star Wars fan growing up so I don't really know where it falls compared with the others but I agree that it was very good. 1 Quote
jr231 Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 What bummed me out is no lightsaber fights... That's what I like most.. my favorite scene of all the movies is the first one with "Darth maul" fighting both Jedi at once.. 1 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted December 29, 2016 Super User Posted December 29, 2016 Saw it with the family. Enjoyed it very much. In the pantheon of Star Wars films It is definitely in the top 3 5. It sets the stage quite well... What I want to see is movies that go back to the Old Republic times when Jedi and Sith were more plentiful and powerful I also like the Clone Wars cartoons and think there could be some exploits of Mace Windu, Obi Wan and others put to film. 3 Quote

I haven't seen rogue one, going in an hour with my daughter, but your list is exactly as mine is..makes me really have high hopes for this one. 1 Quote
Super User Gundog Posted December 29, 2016 Super User Posted December 29, 2016 Honestly, I found it forgettable. 2 hours after watching it I forgot the ending. I've seen all the Star Wars movies and really liked all of them (even the ones critics didn't like) but this one, IMHO is a throwaway. It did nothing but connect SW3 with SW4. Its a movie I could have done without. I agree with Darren, I would love to see a SW movie about the Jedi & Sith. BTW, am I the only one who wants to see a SW movie without the Death Star? 1 Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted December 29, 2016 Super User Posted December 29, 2016 It was really good. And sad, surprisingly sad. LOVED the diversity of the cast, loved the cool Jedi blind guy and his totally bada companion, loved Felicity Jones, it was a good movie. I would like to see Disney take the SW movies to a whole new level; they have all the old fans hooked now with two good movies that VERY closely followed the old ones, pretty much copying them at times. Now they really need to move away from that and start a whole new franchise, that's what I'm hoping episode 8 will do. 2 Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted December 29, 2016 Super User Posted December 29, 2016 Yes I have seen it. And I enjoyed it. I am a bit of a Star Wars nerd............but I keep it to myself. 2 Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted December 29, 2016 Super User Posted December 29, 2016 Just got out from seeing it..pretty good, not real good though. My list... Empire New hope Jedi Force awakens Rogue one 1 Quote

Super User Raul Posted December 30, 2016 Super User Posted December 30, 2016 I've seen Star Wars no less than 30 times, one of my favorite movies of all times. Quote
CenCal fisher Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 I'm not a big Star Wars fan, but I saw the movie so I wouldn't feel left out of conversations. I thought the movie was just alright. I felt like it followed a predictable and familiar storyline, nothing new or that exciting Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted December 30, 2016 Super User Posted December 30, 2016 I saw it with my son this week. I really liked it. As others have said the third act is worth the price of admission alone. Seeing Darth Vader at the height of his power as a Sith lord was breathtaking. This was the Vader I remember, not the NNNNNOooooooooo!! Vader I came to loathe. My only gripe is I am still coming to grips with the CGI characters and the thought of resurrecting deceased actors that way. I really don't know how I feel about it. I am torn as I really like Peter Cushing from his old Hammer movies and Doctor Who vs the Daleks. Seeing him again in this way was thrilling but a little eerie and I feel a bit disrespectful. I did read that his family gave permission to use his likeness but I am still torn. Quote

It was very predictable, no characters were worthy of emotional attachment and it had none of the trademark battle scenes..meaning good 1 on 1 fights, everything was large scale. I will end up buying the dvd as our family has the collection and my kids will watch it, but force awakens was leaps and bounds better than this one. this was better than the phantom menace and clone wars only because jar jar binks wasn't in it. Super User gim Posted December 31, 2016 Super User Posted December 31, 2016 I thought it was good. It wasn't really connected or related to any of the other films and the fact that it did not have any Jedi was disappointing. The last hour of it is intense. Quote

Ohio Archer Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 I liked it once I was able to figure out where it fit in the Star Wars scheme of things. Initially thought it was a continuation of SW VII but it's not. Gives a bit of clarity on how the whole Rebellion thing started and how the plans ended up in R2D2. Some of the rebellion star fighter pilots look very familiar, as though they used film from the cutting room floor from the original Star Wars. It's been 40 years they haven't aged a day...LOL. Wish I could say the same. One website shows there are at least two more (VIII and IX) due out in the next three years. Carrie Fisher is in the next one, having completed filming before she died. That will be kind of odd to see. Quote
Last_Cast Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 I heard it was exactly like the last one, but I'll give it a chance.. Quote

Super User Fishing Rhino Posted January 3, 2017 Super User Posted January 3, 2017 I have been a Star Wars fan since A New Hope hit the theaters. It took how many years for the first three movies to reach their conclusion? There was another long period of time before the second trilogy started, with a significant gap between each of those films. Now, they are popping the SW movies out like popcorn, trying to capitalize on their popularity. Eventually they, like many other things will fall to overexposure. I had no interest in going to see The Force Awakens. Seems like it was available on Blue Ray before its run in the theaters ended. To me, it amounted to a reworked "A New Hope" with a cute new droid which carried the plans for the new Death Star. I did buy it when it became available. Maybe it's a sign of my age, but special effects can only go so far. It was the special effects, and the chemistry of the charcters that really made the first movie. The sound track was amazing as well. I particularly liked the music in the Cantina scene. Quote

To have an impact and really flesh out the character, I think it would have to be a "R" rated movie. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted January 3, 2017 Super User Posted January 3, 2017 The first six Star Wars Movies were about Darth Vader. 1 Quote

I like the description that the Star Wars saga (all seven movies) were about the Skywalker family and their relationship with Obi-Wan Kenobi. This description fits future movies no matter if it turns out that Rey is the child of a Skywalker or of Obi-wan. If Rey is a Skywalker, then it continues a tradition in that family where the men are whiny, talented pilots with a great connection to the Force (Anikan, Luke & Kylo) and the women have less of a connection to the Force, but are mentally tougher and pragmatic (Padame, Leia, Rey). If Rey is a Kenobi, then it continues a tradition of Skywalkers getting their butt whipped by Kenobi's in light saber battles... 1 Quote
