Cannot WAIT for Spring!

Normally I am a fan of the winter months, as I enjoy the peace and quiet it brings. Basking in some wintery solitude has always been my "thing". But this year, 2017, is going to be different. I am so ready to get out on the water already! I ordered some 5" Senkos, and 4/0 Gamakatsu EWG hooks (at Road Warrior's recommendation) and two extra spinning rods. I just want to go catch some fish already.

For me it's pre spawn and that should start in a few weeks in SoCal.

I'm Jonesing for bass to kick in but it will be awhile. I fly rod and spin fish for trout through the winter. Would like to get a few hours in tomorrow but the are calling for a Northeaster to move in in the morning. They like to hit on a scud pattern.

I can't wait either. It's been a long wait for me. There is nothing like prespawn bass fishing on the Great Lakes.

Just how long ago was it when you guys had to quit fishing? I mean it hasn't got cold here but one weekend so far. It won't freeze here and stop fishing either way for me. But sounds like you guys haven't fished in 2 or 3 months? Has it really been that long.

I was out on Monday and caught a bass and lots of crappie and perch. I'm happy to get one bite from a bass this time of year but will take anything I can get. Jerkbaits.

Last day on the water was November 13 for me. I can't wait for spring, but we just got a couple feet of snow so I think it's a ways away.

I fish SOOOOO MUCH from April-Nov. that I enjoy the break. I used to jones for spring round about now every year, but now I just sit back, relax, and wait for it to come..............it always does.

 

I always thought ice fishing would help........."hey it's winter and I can still fish" but in all reality, aside from going when it's easy ........IE not too cold/windy, not a lot of snow on the ice,  and the fish are biting good enough that I can get what I want for the freezer quick...........  I really hate it LOL.

I never thought I would say it, but by the end of the year I was a little burnt out as well. I started early march and ended late November, going quite often. I originally told myself winter was a welcomed break, but I realized I meant a 2 week break, not 4 months of winter!

 

I need the break though, getting my feet settled into a job, have plenty of tackle organization/boat maintenance to do, and of course, lure making to do!

As for waiting for spring, join the crowd. In the meantime, have fun organizing, reorganizing and then reorganize your tackle again.

 

Practice your flipping and pitching this winter, inside of course, or in your yard/street. The more you practice the more proficient you will be with the technique and you will clobber them with your Senko set up.

 

And speaking of Senko's, do you have any "mend it" type glue? If not, get some type of glue so you can re-glue your Senkos back together. To help your Senko's last longer, study how to rig them "wacky" style.

 

OK, time to watch Glenn's videos and the others on YouTube to note new techniques, baits, tackle, places to fish, how to fish big lakes, what are points and why are they so important?, how to master the drop shot, etc., etc., etc.

I won't be fishing for anything until mid April. I don't do ice fishing. During this winter I want to finish rigging my new to me old relic of a boat and get it repainted.

Updated my location. I have some cold water opportunities around here, but truthfully, I won't go because I barely have any idea what I'm doing when the water is warm

I can't wait either.  Most of the lakes around me are ice right now.  My tackle box is reorganized and I am going to start cleaning reels next.  That should take me through the end of January.

love the hook s very sharp I use 2/0 thru 5/0.  cousin taking me on my first big trip in march  lake fork texas hoping for a big one!!
