dwardmba Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 KVD 1.5 Squarebill with patterns following seasonally available shallow forage and conditions (late winter / early spring = crawfish, spring to early summer = shad, summer / early fall = bluegill, fall / early winter = shad again and finally add some chartreuse to the above for when the water gets dirty). I'm starting to feel sorry for it . Don't rule out the 1/8 oz. size either. I throw it on casting gear with 10# all the time. It's deadly when the bait is small. I have some custom painted but that's a secret. 1 Quote
S. Sass Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 These pretty much cover all my shallow cranking that aren't "square" bills. Mann's 1 minus is my all time favorite shallow bait in Baby Bass Crystaglow color. I do have some KVD 1.5 and other random square bills but seem to have equal or better results with these. Mann's 1 minus 0-1 ft. Bomber Shallow A 0-1 ft. Bomber Square A 0 – 3 ft. Bandit Footloose .5–1 ft. Bandit 100 2–5 ft. Quote

Hez Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 Okay - because of this thread I picked up a KVD 1.5, as it seems to be on everyone's list. But then again...that is one of the reasons I love my Spro - seems to be a little bit different than what the fish see regularly. Quote

One reason it is so popular is that it is sold everywhere including wally world......I would bet dollar for donuts that it was most folks 1st crankbait. 1 Quote

wdp Posted December 31, 2016 Author Posted December 31, 2016 Baby 1- is prob my favorite. I've just caught way to many fish on it - and big ones too. Only bad thing is you gotta change those stock hooks - they are turrible!!! For those that love the Baby one minus, Bass Pro has a 1 FOW or less crankbait called The Egg. I've bought a few of them & they work great too. Plus they come stock with Grammy hooks. Academy also has a wakebait that's pretty decent. 1 Quote
wdp Posted December 31, 2016 Author Posted December 31, 2016 Another that I don't think has been mentioned is a 1/4 oz lipless crank. Man, I've had days where I burned a 1/4 oz RES around grass in 2-4 FOW & absolutely slayed em. Quote
NCbassraider Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 The Strike King KVD line has good colors but the hooks are garbage and I get tire of changing them out. Lately I have been buying Spro as they come with Gamakatsu hooks. Some of the Yamamotos are nice too. Quote
Blackhawk83 Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Gotta love those shallow running cranks. They just seem to produce whenever I tie one on. My preferred lures are: Bandit 100 series Poes RC1 Manns baby 1 minus Bagleys Honey B Bomber square bill Mod A Rebel bluegill Quote
robster80 Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 Bandit 100's for me. Ive got plenty of other brands but none have caught the amount of fish the bandits have. They were pretty much my go to lure most of last year Quote
smr913 Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 A dark horse for me is the H20 (Academy) brand squarebill. It's a pretty cheap alternative so I don't panic if I get hung. It runs true out of the box and has decent enough hardware. Other than that I use KVD 1.0 and 1.5 in shad. 1 Quote
tholmes Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 I've done pretty well with those 1/4 oz. Rebel squarebills that are $1.50 at WalMart. Tom Quote
Oklahoma Mike Posted January 6, 2017 Posted January 6, 2017 LC 1.5 & 2.0, KVD 1.5 & 2.5, Baby Manns 1-, Square A. Those are what I mainly throw. I just picked up some 6th Sense 75x cranks that I haven't had a chance to fish with yet, but they look pretty good in the bathtub Quote
