Fav Shallow Crankbaits?

I've only gotten into shallow cranking over the last few years, well seriously anyway. Something I saw from a video clip with Rick Clunn turned the light on for me & since, shallow cranking has become my top confidence bait for numbers & big bass. 

 

I have a number of baby 1-, KVD squarebills, etc. I was about to pull the trigger on a few of these Yo-Zuri 3DB shallow cranks earlier while I was window shopping on TW. These prism colors sure look good. Anybody use these much?

 

But it also got me wondering what some of everybody's fav shallow cranks were.

I have a bunch of the Yo-Zuri 3DB square bills in both the prism and painted colors and they are great!!!! I do a lot of shallow cranking, 6' and less and most are good but I have a few special ones. The Mann's 1 minus series are fantastic, the baby 1 minus and the mid 1 minus are used most, and I also like the Baby X which dives 1' to 1.5' deeper than a 1 minus. The Rapala DT Fat 3 has taken its share of good fish from the shallows as well, and one of my newer ones is the Bagley Rattlin' Killer B2, it is a plastic bait that gets to 3', it has a rattle but it is low pitch and works in both stained and clear water, one of the few rattling baits I use in clear water.

For crankbaits being manufactured today its the Rapala Crankin Rap . All time its the Rogers Big Jim.

for me the Baby 1- is the bomb.next would be a Bagley's killer b or an old honey b. also have a couple of old Poe's RC 1s.

I tend to be a creature of habit, and once something starts working well for me - I stick with it until I have either mastered it, or am just ready to move on and expand. 

 

This year I am stuck on the Spro Little John 50 shallow crankbaits.  They are flat sided and I love that way they wiggle different from other crankbaits.

100 series Bandits, for the price you can beat them. I have a lot of other brands of cranks but seems like a Bandit is always tied on at the end of the day.

Strike King KVD 1.5, or an old Bomber Balsa B. They don't make the Balsa B anymore. I own about 20 of them.

I have never seen the Bomber Balsa B crankbaits . I only heard of them .

Rapala DT 4,6, and fat.  Bomber model 4a and 6a. Rapala (jointed too) shallow shad rap. Rapala xrap shallow shad.. and although not a "crank" the original floater is, and probably will always be one of my favorites to use in the shallows.

SK 1.0, 1.5, 2.5, ~ Seem to reach for these a lot.

And for a bit beefier profile & different action, the 6th Sense Movement L7 Squarebill Crankbait and the 6th Sense Movement 80X Crankbait have been making a little noise.   Both are new but even having seen only limited time to prove themselves, they are doing just that.  Give them a look.

SK KVD's do the bulk of my work. I use the 1.5 + 2.5 size a lot

 

When I want to switch it up I have a bunch of Storm Arashi's in both silent and rattling, in both the 3 & 5 size, and they have always produced well for me.

 

I have a few of the newish Berkley shallow runners, but haven't used them yet.

 

 

For ultra shallow work I use the Mann's baby 1-, the KVD shallow runner, and the Arashi wake bait.

Both. I live in the south & fish mostly small ponds/lakes, 200 acres or less. Most the places I fish are very shallow with max depth of 8 - 12 ft. Most times, I'm fishing 6 FOW or less.

I just recently purchased a few of the the 6th sense shallow cranks after reading some good things about them. I'm really excited about trying out the Movement 80x this spring & summer. It's supposed to have a great "built-in" hunting action.

Like most have said, you cant go wrong with the KVD 1.5 or Manns 1 Minus. I've also been having luck on Bomber Square A's, Bagley's B2, a 6th Sense bait I cant remember the name of (Crush 65?). Picked up some ima baits that were on sale that I've never seen before called a BT-a 80SR, they claim to be a super shallow runner so I cant wait to try these out on the river.

I got a Spro Fat John 60 for Christmas. Looking forward to trying it out.

 

I also wanna try the Baby Fat John 50. Looks like it would be a good alternative to the Baby 1-. I have a few spots where they stack up in 2-4 ft throughout the spring & fall. Super shallow cranks slay em some days.

Mann's 1 minus is what I use most of the time.  Second on my list is a Storm sub-wart.

A lot of my shallow cranks are no longer in production. Of the one's that are, here are my favorites: Bass Pro XPS Squarebill, Luck-E-Strike RCS, Rapala DT Fat3, as well as the Spro Little John

What I can say is I have fished a lot of different ones, and they are probably the favorite lure in my tackle box. I can't nail down a favorite though. My box is overflowing and I like em all!

Yes! The Luhr Jensen Speed Trap is def one I've been wanting to try. Thanks for the reminder.
