I have a Johnson 1999 , 225 H/O, I have a bad carburetor's & the shop can't find one , new or old , reason they was only made 1 year i think. They've ordered a few used one's but they end up not fitting because of the hole pattern's. Anyone got a ideal how i might find one myself .My boat don't want a idle , make's loading hard i'm by myself & a steel plate in my back don't help .  GodBless & Thank's for Your Help

You can rebuild a carburator the bodies don't usually go bad, they aren't a throw away part. Floats can be silver soldered, needle vales cleaned and housing cleaned, jets replaced, etc.

If you say your motor has a different carburetor than earlier models, that's news to me.  I've worked on a number of HO's and rebuilt the carbs on them but never actually replaced a carb on one, but I never noticed anything different about it's carb and the 225/250 carbs from earlier models.  Even according to BRP Parts catalog, the body on yours has the same part number as the body on the 1998.

I guess I ended up double posting somehow and can't figure out how to delete this one

Since I'm not physically looking at your motor with my hands on it, I hate to say if I think the person working on it know what he's doing or not.

Those carbs have adjustable idle screws and are usually not hard to adjust.  Where a lot of people mess up is on the initial setting.  the idle screw has to be turned all the way in and then back out about 5 1/2 turns.  People that's not familiar with this have a tendency to only want to go out the standard 1 1/2 turns and it's not going to idle with that, and they can't comprehend going out 5 1/2, thinking turning it that far, there would have to be something wrong with them.

Sound to me like they are trying to jack up the price for repair. Did you ask them what is wrong with the carbs, I would try another shop and try to find one that is familiar with Johnson motors.

The best i remember it was leaking , must of been very minor i was told its safe to run it. All i know is i was told i needed a carb & they can't find one new or old. I know they got one & said the screw pattern didn't match. They did a good job on my boat except that , it wouldn't idle & i took it back & we put it on the water & he found something wrong with the carb & said it can't be fixed. I would try to find one if i knew what i needed ,i can spend hrs looking for one & they can't. Is that ID number by the motor all i need. When i call and ask about the carb they tell me Ain't found one .

Not enough info.

Do you need the throttle body or the plastic body. The throttle body is the metal plate with the butterflies in it the plastic carb body bolt to.

If it's the throttle body, are you needing the upper or lower.  The upper is for two carbs, the lower is for one.

The plastic carburetor body is the same.

There are numbers of them on ebay listed for your motor.

I called again yesterday their still hunting , i asked about me hunting the right carb & getting the right one ,  they said count the number of screws on the carb , does that sound right ?

Well, I guess he either didn't want or appreciate the help and information I was trying to offer so I will leave it up to him and his jack leg mechanic to get it fixed.

I don't know how others feel, but I feel if an OP can't at least acknowledge the work/effort you put into trying to help them with a problem, they don't deserve it, so Mr Gostshad, good luck with your motor, I'm done.

My new years resolution, anyone that can't at least offer an acknowledgement/thanks must think it's not worth it so I won't bother them with trying to provide them any more.

I dont know a lot of about boat carburetors.  I acquired a tractor this past summer that had been sitting for 9 years or so.  The carburetor and sediment bowl were about as nasty and gummed up as you can imagine.

Disassembled them and soak in M.E.K., lots of cleaning, scrubbing, picking with wires of different diameters...replaced all gaskets, the float, had to replace a couple of jet cause they had to be drilled out.   Assuming you can get the gaskets and or jets, you should be good to go.  Its a bit of work and tedious at times, but it is perfectly do able.

You have offended no one, these boards only provide a benefit if we are all here to help each other . Sorry your computer gave you trouble. I hope the carbs work out. When you get the boat back on the water let us know how it runs. Hope you catch lots of big ones this year!  BY the way where in that beautiful state do you live. My wife and I started vacationing in Tennessee a few years ago. So far we have fished Center Hill and Dale Hollow Lake multiple times. Boy you are blessed with tons of good lakes to choose from.

Hey just because you ticked me off, nothing saying you have to quit. You are not the first to do that. There's a lot of good, knowledgeable people on hear, Just don't expect much support from me.

I just feel when I go through the time and effort to find the carbs you said no one else could, at some great prices, and post links to them, it should at least be acknowledged.  If you didn't follow up on that before I erased it, too bad, your loss. One note, I just happen to know your motor as good as anyone, and better than most.

Ghostshad the support Way2Slow offered was at the professional level and positive feedback for his efforts would have been appreciated, I know your apology was.

I am not a fan of PM replies, however when things get personal a PM can help to calm the waters.
