bigfruits Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 I fish from a kayak often and I am limited to the amount of tackle boxes I can carry. What I do to carry buzzbaits and spinnerbaits is cut notches in a 3600 size box as you can see below. Using a sharp knife I cut straight down on the bottom side of the notch. The second cut is a slight diagonal that meets the first cut near the bottom of the box. Cut slow or you will crack the plastic. Watch your fingers! (sorry about the picture quality) 4 Quote
Oklahoma Mike Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 Nice solution. Have you looked at the Plano Elite series box that's made for spinnerbaits and buzzbaits? I have a couple and they do work pretty well. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Plano-Elite-Spinnerbait-Organizers/1938272.uts?productVariantId=2805556&WT.tsrc=PPC&WT.mc_id=GoogleProductAds&WT.z_mc_id1=03093144&rid=20&gclid=CP7QytuoktECFRSPfgodTswNDQ&gclsrc=aw.ds Quote
bigfruits Posted December 26, 2016 Author Posted December 26, 2016 That looks like a better solution if I carried more spinner/buzzbaits. I carry 3 3600s and two smaller boxes so a dedicated spinnerbait box does not make it onboard. The Plano Elite looks a lot more narrow than my Falcon spinnerbait box which is a good thing. Are the wires being squeezed down or are the baits laying at a angle? If the former, I assume it doesnt deform the wires? Quote
dwh4784 Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 I carry a small bag that only fits 3500 series boxes, still have yet to come up with anything great for spinnerbaits. I cut up one and it does work, I like the way you notched yours rather than removing entire sections though. 2 Quote
S. Sass Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 I have a couple of the Plano FTO Elite Spinnerbait boxes. I have 1/2 oz size baits in this one and it doesn't hurt the lure. Not sure on bigger size baits how it would do as this seems like the max I would want to try. It does use the pressure of the wire to hold them in place. I am not 100% satisfied with the result though. I find times when the skirts do get pinched under a neighboring bait. Other times they just seem to not be easily inserted into the slots. This seems to be a issue with baits that have a really full skirt not the thinner skirt versions. Maybe if you only used 3/8 oz or there about sizes it might be awesome. I have several extras of the boxes as the OP modified I may try cutting one as he did. Thanks for the idea. 2 Quote

jasong fishing Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 wow Nice box bro, i just buy them yesterday 2 Quote
bigfruits Posted December 26, 2016 Author Posted December 26, 2016 There are 5 spinnerbaits in the right section. The left section is not full but I could carry 4 spinnerbaits and 3-4 buzzbaits. Plenty for me and leaves real estate in the box for chatterbaits and swimjigs. I have some poppers, spooks and frogs in there as well. If on a bass boat, a dedicated spinnerbait box is def the way to go. 2 Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted December 26, 2016 Super User Posted December 26, 2016 That is a good idea if you can live with altering a plano box. I repack so often that I never want to do anything permanent. I use the 3000 boxes with the half open side, as I pack a mix of spinnerbaits and chatterbaits in the same box. I bet your method would work better if got say a cheap steak knife and heated it so that the plastic would soften as you cut through it. I good paint stripping gun should get it hot enough, or your stove if you like danger. I made a small homemade hyroflow box with a heated drill bit and was surprised how little heat it took to melt through. Quote
Super User MassYak85 Posted December 26, 2016 Super User Posted December 26, 2016 I actually just take a Plano 3707 and put each spinnerbait in it's own little sandwich bag. Keeps them from getting tangled and while it doesn't stay organized and I can quickly look in and see what I have and just grab one out. Quote

heavyduty Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 Wired two fish has an option of putting baits in bags and labeling them. URL wouldn't post here. Quote

Not giving up the 783! M/F spinning rod and reel from my collection (this hurt a bit) 1/4oz white War Eagle spinnerbait 1/4oz black Cavitron buzzbait 1/4oz white chatterbait 1/4oz Meps inline spinnerbait 1/4oz RatLTrap and 1/4oz SK Red Eye lipless Wigglewart 2 of the small KVD squarebills 1 pop-x (accept no substitute) 1/4oz BBZ-1 shad (not sure how well this will work but looks cool!) 2 1/4oz frogs 4"senkos, gamakatsu finesse wide gap hooks, zman TRD and mushroom jigheads ill prob get him some small jigs and trig stuff before spring. sorry about the pointless edit. 1 Quote
Super User Cgolf Posted December 26, 2016 Super User Posted December 26, 2016 I like your idea, as it allows you to multi task with the box. Another option I have used when the boxes were taking up too much space was to use some old Tackle Logic bags to carry them in. I went without the rings to hold the bags in, but on a yak I would use the rings. I also used the standard bags not the spinnerbait specific, because I can carry more this way without flexing the frames. In the off season they are stored in the gigantic hydro flo box. Only downside similar to a box is they need to be put away dry in the bags. 5 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted December 26, 2016 Super User Posted December 26, 2016 I use a box with no compartments , then I put the spinnerbaits and buzzbaits in clear plastic sleeves made for fire extinguisher tags and just throw them in . 1 hour ago, bigfruits said: that might work. even melting a 3mm slot with a hot wire might work. i go french at room temp. Those thin bladed opinels are cutting machines . I have one with a bent blade . I was bending saplings over and cutting them and got it pinched . 4 Quote

I used to bag them and keep them in one of the 3600 size boxes with the extra square compartment normally used for fishing line. You can fit quite a few in there but the bags take up some space. putting little holes in the bag or leaving it sightly open helps with that. without bags can be a nightmare when hooks find their way into the split rings. I now use that compartment for hooks in packaging, bobber stops, worm nails and my license. I cant believe im taking pictures of my tackle boxes and pocket knife today. Its going to be a long winter... 1 Quote

This is exactly what I do except I have been using Ziploc sandwich bags haha. Where did you get those from? I've been looking for a more durable option. Quote

I dont think they will sell them to individuals . National Fire Supply has some that work well , not as thick and I think they will sell them . 1 Quote
Super User MickD Posted December 27, 2016 Super User Posted December 27, 2016 Expanding on the Tackle Logic folder, I've found that the folders sold for CD/DVD storage work well , are inexpensive. Not so good for buzz baits. Easy to organize by color or blade shape, etc. With the plastic boxes you are storing more air than you are lures. 2 Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted December 27, 2016 Super User Posted December 27, 2016 I have several different spinner bait storage boxes. I like the old Falcon FTO boxes the best, they aren't available anymore. The Plano ones are similar but they do bend the wires down slightly, I don't think that is an issue, but you can't fit large spinner baits into them easily. I was going to tell about the neat little spinner bait boxes made by Flambeau, that held 5 or 6 baits. I have 10 or 12 of them and I liked them when I was co-angling because they saved space. Just went over to the Flambeau web site and they don't offer them anymore. Maybe you can still find them in a fishing shop somewhere, good luck with that. 3600 size boxes are cheap and modifying them is probably your best bet. I'd be more inclined to use my Dremel Moto tool rather than a knife, though. Maybe not the right size or fit, but check out the Plano 3503 & 3504 size spinner bait boxes. Quote

I've been looking for a worm pouch with ziplock bags to keep them separate that will fit in the zipper pouch on the end of my bag, but so far, no good. I just cram a few into one big compartment in one of my 3500 boxes. I do have a spinnerbait box but it's almost a cube in shape. I'm getting to the point that I have a lot more tackle out of my bag than will fit in it. Quote
Oklahoma Mike Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 I just saw that TW finally has the new Bass Mafia stuff in, and man does this thing look like a good solution! Quite pricey, though. Edit: I'm referring to the Blade Coffin. Tried multiple ways to post a link but the site won't let me for some reason. The last of the link has B_B_C in it. I guess the site thinks I'm trying to post links to black men's genitalia. Quote
