Super User MassYak85 Posted December 26, 2016 Super User Posted December 26, 2016 I thought this would be fun to see the replies. What is the most widely accepted or used lure that you personally have just never tried? And I don't mean the latest trend that you haven't bought into (yes that means whopper plopper cannot be an answer), I mean lures that have been around for a long time and have been a staple for many, but not you. Think Jitterbug, Senko, rooster tail. For me I have never actually fished a true senko, only knock-offs. I actually still have a pack of white senkos from years ago I never get around to opening. Super User scaleface Posted December 26, 2016 Super User Posted December 26, 2016 A genuine Senko . 1 Quote
primetime Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 Good question. I have never tried the GYB Flappin Hog creature bait & down here in the South I notice that many guys fish the Hog more than any other bait. I think I own just about every Hard bait, But that certainly does not mean I have ever used them. I really want to get into the bigger lures this year, big swimbaits, Topwaters, plastics etc... Didn't catch any fish over 7.5lbs this year & I think it was because of my Light line addiction I am having a hard time kicking. I plan on getting one of those MS Slammer's that Bluebasser is always posting with good size Bass on it, My buddy always throws that big Spro Frog and he seems to catch just as many bass as on normal sized frogs, but usually gets some bigger fish. I always assumed it was too big and hook up percentage would be poor, but I may have been wrong. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted December 26, 2016 Super User Posted December 26, 2016 The Strike King Red Eye Shad!!! I have a nice selection of lipless baits but the Red Eye Shad, it may be because my buddy uses that bait exclusively and he has yet to beat me when there is a lipless bite going on. 1 Quote

Gotta use what works for ya. After one season fishing the RES, I SOLD almost EVERY Rat-L-Trap I owned ( in the BR Flea Market & to Keri May as I recall). Did keep the 1 oz Mag Traps for south of the border. btw, does your buddy put hooks on those baits ? A-Jay 2 Quote

Super User fishwizzard Posted December 26, 2016 Super User Posted December 26, 2016 I have never really fished a senko "correctly". I have tried them t-rigged, but end up working them fastlike a fluke. I have tried them wacky rigged, but never for long enough to really get a sense of what I am doing. 1 Quote
dwh4784 Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 I have never used a Jitterbug, fluke, or drop shot. 1 Quote

Do you bounce them on the bottom ? Thats where the RES shines . Chunking and winding , heck I still throw Bayou Boogies and Pico Perches . 3 Quote
Onvacation Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 Not sure if this fits the rules, but I have three Mega Bass Pop Max lures, two of which have hit the water a handful of times, the third is a virgin. They do nothing for me so they sit in my topwater box and I ignore them. 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 26, 2016 Super User Posted December 26, 2016 Whopper Plopper! Can not tell y'all what one looks like! 2 Quote
Super User Cgolf Posted December 26, 2016 Super User Posted December 26, 2016 Lucky Craft Sammy, when I used to frequent a forum on River Smallie fishing, this was the one bait you must have, to this day I have yet to splurge and purchase one. 1 Quote

riverbasser Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 Dropshot for me too but hope to change that. Also never fished a soft plastic frog only hollow bodies. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 26, 2016 Global Moderator Posted December 26, 2016 Can't really think of any popular ones I haven't used. I don't use much from Rapala, including the very popular DT line. I don't use Megabass jerkbaits despite being a jerkbait junky. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted December 26, 2016 Super User Posted December 26, 2016 A-rigs and Whopper Plopper are the first two that comes to mind. 1 Quote

My preferred brand has changed names but it use to be the Xaclibur One Knocker, and the follow up is the Sebile Flatt Shad. For some reason the painted Xcalibur one knockers just kill and if they aren't hitting those hard, the Flatt Shads will get bit. I have Lucky Craft LV 150s and 250s as well as the Spro Aruku Shads and none of them work as well as the Xcalibur and the Sebile. I do have a few others that are niche baits but those two just seem to get bit all the time no matter how I use them. 3 Quote
