Pond Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 Santa brought me the deeper fish finder the regular one so I tested it out today on a pond and it wouldn't stay connected to phone for more than a few seconds. It was only about 30ft out I connected it at shore in water first than it just keep disconnecting. I'm using a iPhone 7+ am I doing something wrong? I couldn't find anything about it on google just ads for it. Thanks for the help and merry Christmas! Quote

I have one and really like it but have never cast it, I only use it attached to the boat however I have seen many videos of it in use and they don't seem to have any problems with disconnection. It could have been due to a weak phone signal where you were at. I have put it in my swimming pool and gone in the house to mess around with it without have disconnection problems and it was well over 30 feet through brick. If your signal was strong then you may need to return it. Quote
Dropshotdave Posted January 10, 2017 Posted January 10, 2017 I've actually seen lots of reviews and videos stating that there have been connection problems with the Deeper Portable Sonar and the FishHunter Fish Finder. The one that seems to not have these problems is the iBobber. The iBobber is cheaper, but I've also heard, although it is great for finding depth and structure, it is a poor fish finder (it says there are fish present when there are not). I would like to get one of these to assist in my winter pond fishing. It won't be attached to a boat and I would expect to be able to cast it and use it in remote areas. Has anyone had any luck with one over the other? Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted January 10, 2017 Super User Posted January 10, 2017 The Vexilar Sonarphone uses WiFi instead of Bluetooth so it has greater range. You won't cast farther than it can provide data. https://store12459.americommerce.com/store/p/26-SP100-T-POD.aspx I use the boat mount version and it does very well. I use it to create HD contour mapping with Navionics Sonar Charts Live. I have the app on iOS and Android devices. This is simulator on an iPad: Quote

The problem with that for me is that I have terrible service in more remote areas. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted January 10, 2017 Super User Posted January 10, 2017 Your phone has Wifi and the transducer has a Wifi transmitter. You just pair the two--no different than paring your smartphone to any Wifi source. Just uses Wifi frequency instead of Bluetooth frequency. Quote

Wonderwood Posted January 24, 2017 Posted January 24, 2017 I got the Fishhunter Directional 3D finder, which uses Wifi, and I have issues with the connection as well when it was further than 50 ft out. So I have to cast it out then reel until it is in range. The manual says it has a range of 150 ft from a fishing pier and 50 ft from a standing position in a boat. So I'm assuming when fishing from shore you are more likely to have a range of 50 ft since you arent elevated. I have only tried it at one location so I plan to try in other places to try to remedy this. Quote

I had the same issues with my bluetooth version of the Deeper. When it worked, it worked great, but the connection would be lost on lots of casts, and I'd spend all kinds of time fooling around trying to get it to reconnect. Even from a jonboat, I had spotty connectivity. I've just sent mine back to Europe and waiting on repairs or replacement. Quote
MrTightLInes Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 Just purchased the Deeper Pro+ Sonar (the best of the 3 released) and will be giving this a try in my local ponds and fishing haunts, out of both my fishing Yak and my 10' Pelican Bass Raider. I have a feeling this is going to give me lots of key info that should help on the "slower" fishing days. I saw a video where it was compared to a high end Lowrance unit, and it was very impressive of a comparison. the temp was a couple degrees off, but the depth was spot on. Just seemed to have a couple degree difference from the Lowrance. Maybe because the Deeper's transducer is at the very top of the water and the Lowrance transducer was installed into the water, further down on the Bass boat? This is just a theory. Either way, it's been known to mark fish properly, and show magnificent contour. Can't wait to try it out MYSELF though this year. C-mon ice out!! Quote
Landis Carrier Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 I've had Deeper for 2 years now and I really like it. It's very accurate and give me all the information that I really need. I'm a yak fisherman and I tie it on a short string and it floats next to me. Quote
