Jagg Posted December 25, 2016 Posted December 25, 2016 What open hook jigheads do you guys like for swimming grubs and other plastics. Had a couple I liked but they were hand made, mom and pop tackle spots that have since closed up shop. Got a few that I buy from the big box stores but you have to sacrifice either a thin wire, sticky sharp hook or a rinky dink plastic keeper. If you know of a good jighead that has all three, I would sure appreciate the help! Planning to try the Keitech tungsten jighead this year and give the Lunker City LunkerGrip jighead again. LC had bad hooks with the last batch I bought. Quote
Super User Gundog Posted December 25, 2016 Super User Posted December 25, 2016 I like the Gamakatsu darter heads. As far as the plastic keeper, I use a dab of glue to keep the plastic on. 2 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted December 25, 2016 Super User Posted December 25, 2016 I like short shank hooks for the sassy shads . I just bend crappie hooks to have a bigger bite and shorten the hook . I ordered some Short shank from D.O.A. They arrived a week or two ago but the wife said I cant open them until today , Christmas . LOL Shes catching on . 1 Quote
Big Swimbait Posted December 25, 2016 Posted December 25, 2016 I like the Buckeye J-Will jig heads. They also make a 2-wire weedless one. Quote

jr231 Posted December 25, 2016 Posted December 25, 2016 You will not be dissapointed with your plan to try those kiethech tungsten jigheads... Give em a go. They are nice. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 25, 2016 Global Moderator Posted December 25, 2016 I pour mine and prefer either a collared worm nose or a darter head. The hook I choose depends on the bait I'm planning on using. Quote

Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted December 26, 2016 Global Moderator Posted December 26, 2016 Depends on where I'm fishing but usually the cheapest 1/8 oz round ball jig head I can find. Which is usually Arkies from wal mart 2 Quote

primetime Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 DOA and Bass Assassin jig heads since they are always on sale at a local shop..I also buy the regular ball head jigs from BPS & use a darter head most of the time and buy the Kalin's version with wire guard and without. Darter heads work better for me same with bullet shaped heads. Ball heads are not good around weeds. but I use them at times. Hook size vs. guage compared to bait size matters most imo. I like having an eye on some jigs and the saltwater jig heads have good colors & hooks that will never bend. The best Jighead I have found is the Trokar Boxer Jig which were on clearance at Dicks. best $4 for 3 jigheads I have ever spent. Hooks are not thick but super strong, good for the lighter rigs or heavy. Quote

The one pictured is a 4" with a 1/8oz keitech tungsten 3/0 jig head. Which works well for the 5" hula grub, 5" and 4" kalins. I also have a 1/16oz 2/0 jighead that works well with all of them as well and usually use the 3" kalins grub on it. I also use the screwlocks with varying weight from none to 3/16 for the swing impacts ..Just depends on the situation. I really like the 4" with 1/8oz jighead though. 1 Quote
