Personally i think that the whopper plooper is the most hyped up bait for no reason. Have caught them better on poppers, spooks and buzz baits over the whopper plopper

I kinda agree but it's still a cool bait. That sound just makes me laugh!

Man I have bit to the point that I have a 90, 130, and 190 and I have yet to land a bass or musky on one. I had one hit on the 90 at the start of a retrieve as it was surfacing, but that is it. Next year maybe, topwater has never been my thing.

I had good luck with the bone colored 90 whopper plopper this year. My first outing with it I caught 8 smallies in less than 2 hours, two of them being a little over 16". I caught a few spots with it this year also. I think it liveshould up to the hype behind it. I won't buy the double plopper, that thing looks ridiculous to me.

Normally I don't buy into lure hype but when me and my dad went out a few times over the summer, I was using that, and catching them 5:1 over him and he was throwing literally every topwater he had at them and could not replicate the results. The lure earned a permanent place in my tackle box cause of that. The ability to pause it really sets it apart from buzzbaits IMO. Even though I love throwing buzzbaits too.

IMO the 130 size shines when the wind really gets blowing. The amount of commotion it throws stands out more than most topwaters when the waves really get going.

It is like any lure; fish get accustomed to them and they don't work as well.  I started using them a few years ago.  The first 7 fish I caught were in the 4lb range.  I was sold.  They still work, but not like then.

So, yeah, they are way over-hyped and everyone should stop using them!

I'm the type of guy that is pretty much set in my ways. But I'll keep an open mind about things. Ican feel that whopper plopper. I don't think its fished to hard in my area. But I could be wrong. In a few bodies of water that I'll call home I know I don't have all the answers for catching them. I'm no KVD. My days of impulse buying have been long over. I don't get too hung up on all the sponsor driven stuff on fishing shows either. There are versions of a Rapalas, Bandits and SK's I swear by. I do like picking up different color patterns, when I can feel it, it generall will work for me. There has been times I've been at BPS for 2 1/2 hours and only walked out with $13.00 worth of $#i+.

Soft plastics is the side of fishing to me that has changed the most. This stuff is endless. There is some old school stuff that you just can't get any more. There was a time when that bothered me a bit but, once my confidence level came on with some of the newer styles, I just roll with it I guess.

What hooks are those? And what size?

These are VMC 1/0 inline hooks and this is a size 90 WP. I'd go with 2/0, possibly 3/0 for the 130 size WP

I haven't bought one yet but i did get a stutter step with a gift card that after playing around with, looks like it could be a real good bait.

I had a lot of success with the 90 this summer fishing it more like a propbait, with pops, rips and pauses rather than a straight retrieve.

It produced well for me this year.  I noticed that it drove the fish crazy the first couple of outings, but they caught on quick and wouldn't touch it after the initial offering.  Now granted I don't have more than 3 places I can fish where I know I can get the fish to produce, so I'm sure the fishing pressure plays into that.   If I had access to more acreage, I imagine the plopper would continue to produce.

In fact, on the guided trip I took in late summer on the Susquehanna, they were all over the plopper.  Most fun I've had in years.

The first one I bought, and the one that has produced best for is the "yoda" color.  Also have the T1000 and Loon.  Haven't had any luck on the Loon color, reviews say that one is great, but hasn't been for me yet.  I haven't been able to find one in Bone yet since they fly off the shelf.  Bone is what I was using on that trip and slaying them.

I too have been bit by the whooper plopped craze. I received my first 90 in loon about a year ago. went out on a cold fall day and caught the poop out of the bass. since that time i have purchased the 130 in the black/yellow color and havent caught a dang fish on it all year. Nor have i caught any on the 90. Im still going to give it one more season and i think that im going to try the monkeybutt color. Hahahahaha.... i just think that name is the funniest, and they say that it is supposed to be a color that imitates shad. I have really thought about putting a single hook on my ploppers to see if they will run through grass a little better.

Good luck with that. I do not have the patience for those baits.
