Alright guys so I've ordered a Lew's Tournament MB baitcaster and I'm wondering what line I should use. I have almost a full spool of 30lb. Spiderwire stealth I used for saltwater fishing last summer and what I want to know is if it's worth it to just go buy some 20lb. Power pro and use that instead. I understand people like powerpro better but is it that much better? Thanks.

IMO yes. Spiderwire was the first braid I used and used it for a whole season. After joining this site I got some power pro and it is clearly better braid. I wouldn't get 20lb for a baitcaster tho. 30lb works great for me for most everything

Not sure what you'd define as much better, but I fish Power Pro Super 8 Slick and haven't had any issues as far as castability, knot strength, and abrasion resistance. I think for the money it's the way to go.

Also keep in mind that you'll be using different strength's for different applications, so choose accordingly. May I ask what applications you'll be using the setup for?

I use nothing but Power Pro for braid. I've tried a few others & always go back to Power Pro.

I've never tried Spiderwire. But I had a buddy that used it & he cussed that stuff on every trip for bout 2 yrs. I never laughed so hard on a few occasions. ??? He finally switched to power pro too, and just went back to using mono for a lot of his rods.

I went to power pro from spider wire a few years ago and haven't looked back. Really like the power pro a lot. Just ordered the max quarto to try out once it warms back up. I do want to try some of the seagur braid but I don't have any complaints about the power pro

I like the standard spectra power pro much better than spiderwire. I've tried power pro super 8 and had a bad experience and will not be using it again. If I want 8 carrier braid I go with 832. I used spider wire in the past and honestly it wasn't bad but power pro feels a lot smoother casting for me.

I have tried lots of different braids.  Spectra is the only Power Pro braid that I tried and I like it. I especially like it in 50 and 65 pound test. They cut lily pads and other vegetation like a knife. I like Spiderwire Stealth just as much, if we are talking 20 or 30 pound test, for throwing rattle traps and certain other baits for stripers and bass. I also like it if I am fishing deep water with a jig and trailer or a big texas rigged plastic. So no, I would not throw your line away if it is in deed Spiderwire Stealth.  Another braid I like is Suffix 832, it plays really well in light pound tests. I used to troll several lakes for fresh water white perch.  It was a perfect line in 6 pound test to rig a walleye style worm/spinner combo using an inline weight.

The last braid I use every trip out is 14 pound Berkley Original Fire Line. It is spooled on all but one of my spinning reels. I attach a 4 foot leader made of  P Line CXX moss green 10 pound test copolymer line.

Anyway since you have purchased the line already I would try it out.    I would spool my reel 1/2 full with 14 pound Stren Mono and fill it up the rest of the way with your Spiderwire. This cuts the cost of spooling your reel considerably. It also means the braid cannot slip on the spool either. As you fish that setup remember anytime you want to be more invisible or give a lure more freedom just add a leader made of copolymer or fluorocarbon.

Once you go PP, you'll never go back.  At 20#, spend the extra money for the Super 8 Slick.

I've been using the regular Power Pro for 10+ years. Thought about trying the Super Slick when it came out but read quite a few comments on other forums about issues with it breaking. Have you ever had this problem?

Ive used both for years without any issues.  Got a couple bulk spools of 30lb stealth in a bargain bin and it's done what Ive asked and hasn't let me down. In that lb test at least its as good as PP, I think the stigma from the original spiderwire may influence opinions on what is a good option for the price. I also haven't had any issues and like PP.

Pro tip, line conditioner will help the coating stay on a bit longer.

I don't have tons of experience, but know what I don't like.....spiderwire.  PP and 832 in 20 lb test

There is a new Spiderwire Stealth Smooth coming out in early 2017 supposedly. 8 carrier with some coating. It's available now but only from the UK and gets good reviews. I'm gonna hold up on braid purchases until then.

I seem to always go back to Power Pro, I guess mostly due to availability.  I think there are some better braids, but just when I realize I need line I don't have the time to order before the trip.

I wouldn't not use what you have right now. However, when you need to buy new braid...

Try some Daiwa J braid if you have a store that carries it.  It's roughly the same price as power pro original but a much much better line. If you're considering pp super slick 8 then I'd just get suffix 832 instead. It's a better line than the ss8 and the price is the same. J braid performs equally as well as the 832 but costs less though. It's a win/win.

Spiderwire makes a sinking braid they call (floro-braid) and I like it alot..

use the flouro-braid on Carolina rig. power pro on everything else.

I stick to PowerPro because I haven't had any issues with it and pretty much every internet or brick and mortar store carries it, which means you can usually find it on sale somewhere when you need it.

I started using Spiderwire braid a few years ago and it was good stuff. Layed off fishing for a while and dug my feels back out last year. Same line, didn't change it. Still works fine. Got into Muskie fishing and loaded SW Stealth on three Abu Garcia reels. Wish I hadn't.

The new line is not as smooth and seems to break easily (50#). I backlashed a few times then had the line snap 20-30 feet into a cast. Not once but 3-4 times. Seems to fray much easier too. In the process of switching them all over to Power Pro. Casts better and doesn't seem to backlash as badly (I know backlashing is not the line's fault). Line shouldn't break like the SW has done, though.

Power pro spectra is my go to also. Not a huge fan of the super slick 8 either.

I go with power pro spectra mostly but when I can get suffix 832 on sale I will get it those are the only braids I use. However I have been wanting to try the Berkeley trilene professional braid... I may give it a try this year.

Tried the seaguar smackdown braid it was good but in the 50lb size the power pro is smaller so I like it to get more line on the spool and still just as strong

PPS8 is the only braid i've EVER used.  Love it and never saw any reason to try anything else.  Is there better braid?  Don't know.  Don't really care

Yea same I like 832 the most but really have no complaints with spectra so I have no reason to spend more or switch. I actually tried some stren braid I realized I had lying around and I was impressed with it in the short time I got to use it before the season ended.

20 vs 20 Ill take Super8slick over 832. S8S stronger smoother quieter than 832. Palomar knot letting loose at 18pounds with 832 where S8S was upwards of 24. Fish-n-fool knot added strength to both lines so still S8S stronger. Another strong limb braid (more so than S8S Smackdown 832) just not as quiet as S8S is Gamma Torque.
