Carterjig68 Posted December 18, 2016 Posted December 18, 2016 I have heard a lot of talk about DC reels mostly good and I wanted to try one for a while. Now I own an exsence DC and a Metanium DC. The essence seems to be more of a beefy reel internally so i use it for jigs. The metanium i use for fish head spins, small keitechs, and spinnerbaits. Both cast extremely well and perform flawlessly. I am wondering, have you guys had experience with DC reels? I am curious if anyone else has had any positive/negative experiences with them. 1 Quote
FrankN209 Posted December 18, 2016 Posted December 18, 2016 Love my 15' Met DC. It casts just as good as my 16' Steez TWS. So far, no problems at all. Very smooth, very tight, no slop at all. Can't say anything bad about this reel. Quote
The Next KVD Posted December 18, 2016 Posted December 18, 2016 I've tried a buddies exsense a few times and liked it but not enough for me to buy one. Guess I just like the lighter weight of my non dc metaniums more and I get few if any backlashes the way it is. All personal preference . Quote

They are great reels once you get passed the weight. I love all the external adjustments and it's ability to be able to cast with no thumb and result in no backlash. Their downside is they aren't finesse reels so anything under 1/4 oz is a no go. Some also don't care for the DC whine either. I bought mine for about $250 a piece and they are a steal for that. For someone wanting a spectacular frog reel this would be a great choice. Quote

Yudo1 Posted December 18, 2016 Posted December 18, 2016 I have an exsence dc on my xx perfect pitch and it makes an awesome frog and jig combo. I like the whine personally and the weight doesn't bother me. In the summer I go to sc for vacation and use the exsence for some inshore and it's the only time I fish at night. The dc comes in handy at night with no fear of backlash. Quote

Only downside in my opinion is you have to get the spool rotating fast enough for the DC to actually kick in (no super short pitches or cast) But I find that I can cast very light lures just fine, I have mainly been throwing a 3.8 inch keitech on a weightless screwlock hook very far... just my opinion though Quote

kLuo Posted December 20, 2016 Posted December 20, 2016 Have a '15 Metanium DC and my favorite part is the versatility. I can effortlessly cast a 1/16 oz jig head with a tiny plastic on it and then switch to a 3/4 oz punch rig no problem. 1 Quote
