Just some simple wire tying on some really nice jig heads I've purchased from @Siebert Outdoors and @cadman They're nothing flashy, but they catch some fish.  The black and blue (Carolina blue) is what i caught my PB/biggest fish of 2016 on.

Gotta love those deep throat hooks. I just bought a bunch of naked ones myself to tie with

You guys are killing me. I have determined to become a better jig fisherman this year and have been disappointed in commercial models available to me. So my question is how much would I need to spend to get started with making my own jigs (1/4 oz to 3/8 oz swimming jigs with living rubber skirts)

Oh my god... That might be the coolest jig I have ever seen...

Thanks,  corn on the rob,...I must say that this pattern I got from a jig crafting website, so credit should go there. I liked the look as well, so tied up a brown and a green pumpkin version, and will "test" them this year.

Nice! That is about the extent of my jig building. Buy some heads, buy some skirts, and some floral wire and tie away. The cost is much less per bait and the color combinations are pretty much endless.

Are you planning on pouring and everything or just tying? I'm pretty confidentit will be cheaper to just buy what you need in a custom order from Seiberts until you decide you really want to get into jig fishing. I have thousands of dollars invested into my bait building supplies.

You can keep your start up cost fairly low if you start out with one or two molds and a few skirt color combos.  When I started out I spent a little under $300 to get started (this included personal protective equipment).  As I was pricing everything out I was like I want this and this, oh and I think I need that.  If you don't use a crawl, walk, run method it can get expensive first out the gate.

check out this mornings ties, the plastic and feather/flash idea came from a jig crafting site, but the double tailed grub and powdercoated jigs are of my design

Alright here are a few that I have made for some customers in the past few months...although the photos are not taken from the best angle or lighting.

This one is a green pumpkin with some orange and black living rubber football jig, in either 3/8 or 1/4 oz

These were made for a woman who wanted them done in two of her favorite sports team colors.....

This is one I called Kentucky Craw

and this one is a black and red. For some reason I think this color would be more popular, but I rarely see jigs in this scheme

Here are some of the different patterns I've been tying. Not always the prettiest but they catch me fish. Shoutout to @smalljaw67. Watched a bunch of his YouTube videos. Best ones out there to learn how to tie.

Gotta agree. @smalljaw67 ties some great jigs and his videos are super easy to follow.  I just got a tieing kit for Christmas that I'm yet to use, but I really look forward to tieing my own flies and jigs.  Buying quality hair/feather patterns is a pain in the ass.

I'll give that a look.  Hoping to get started on tieing in February.  See this being another hobby that ends up consuming way too much time.

I bought some dredge jig heads from @Siebert Outdoors, the owners are about a buck fity each.

The skirts from skirtsunlimited.com, which are $1.50 to $2.50 for a 10 pack depending on quantity you purchase.

I also bought the pencil like tool and a 100 pack of bands from TW (PS you can make the pen tool out of a pen and wire, but it's cheap either way).

taking advantage of bulk pricings, I'm sitting at around $2 a jig.

I'm very interested in feathering my own trebles and adding a bit of hair to my jigs, can't wait to see what you've been working on.

Do you get the skirt to stand up by just pulling it to be a bit shorter?

the feathered treble is pretty big and i think i used too much feather but it's on a 5.5" 2.25oz crank and the jig was just something i did when i got home from work in about 15 min it's feather and black bear

not sure what you're asking here....

the skirt material is all laying down, those are football jig heads with a flat side, the jig heads are standing up

The skirt near the head is standing out. Kind of like a finesse jig.

I think that is just a trick with the camera lighting and them being on an uneven surface. The silicone skirt material do not have a lot of stiffness to it. I guess you could get them to stick up a bit if you cut them close, but not that much.
