So why is it that the lures with all the paint scraped off catch so many fish? I agree, My lures that look the worst, beatin beyond belief and look ugly, all catch more fish lol. I tie on a fresh one and nothing. I think im going to start scraping new lures till they look like they caught 20 bass then use them 9 minutes ago, Last_Cast said: I have a box filled with xcalibur lures that I dont like to tie on. Crazy how much people are selling those for now. Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted December 15, 2016 Super User Posted December 15, 2016 I refuse to lose the first topwater I made. Its my original design and has caught me lots of largemouth bass and peacock bass.I currently have it hanging on my wall with other lures I have made thoughout the years. 1 Quote
Red Bear Posted December 15, 2016 Posted December 15, 2016 i dont buy nothing too expensive or really have a lure im in love with. I go fishing with the idea that if i cast it out its possible i could lose it, if i lose it oh well... Quote
riverbasser Posted December 15, 2016 Posted December 15, 2016 lure I refuse to lose . . . . . the one that is catching fish that day and I don't have a backup. 2 Quote
jsh32 Posted December 15, 2016 Posted December 15, 2016 I have two of the exact same squarbills. one is a little beat up and catches them all day.. got it suck in a tree and thought I lost it. so that's when I bought the other. but I went back a few days later with my kayak and spend about 20 minutes getting that thing out of that tree and that's the most ive done. I just ventured out and bought some megabass lures and im gonna be on edge the whole time im using them for awhile atleast and would probably go through some stuff to get them back if I were to lose them Quote

I did this in lue of a up-coming state fishoffs at the famed Hudson River. During pre-fishing I was waiting at the ramp for my partner to park the truck/trailer when I noticed a crayfish in the shallows that had a greenish hue to it. During said day I had only one area for my choice called Cementon. Just a bit downstream from the catskill ramp, so we went there first, and the only fish I did catch there was on a 1/2 oz black jig I had tied on. segway to the first day of the fish-offs. I am lucky enough to climb on a guys boat that he too had Cementon as a area. so we head there right away, we start at the points barge dock, and about 20 feet from the tip of the point theres a huge boulder, the boater tosses a jig and pig in there a few times (while front ending me), before he allows me a shot at it, and I noticed that he was a bit uptight that he got no hits at all. My first flip in? instant "bang" I set the hook on a nice 2+ pounder., Next flip?,.Bang! another fish this time almost twice the size of the first at 4+. The boater is getting irritated and starts moving the boat away, I can pitch too so,..I do so,..Bang! I pull out the two days lunker 6+ bucket. He's vehematley ticked, backs off from the point altogether and says, there's no more fish here we're moving. I protest but to no availe. The rest of the day went as Im sure you would already figure, he front ends, and blocks me from any fish holding spots as much as possible. When we get to the weigh-in, one of his clubs anglers askes, "hey , Charlie,..how'd ya do?",.he replies "he caught all my fish~!" with a few exlporative adjectives in there. I just smiled as I walked away with a bag towards the scales as he he was slamming hatches and throwing stuff around. I made the state team with that jig, and its been a joy to not only tie up a working jig, but even more of a elated feeling when I hear someone say,..'He caught my fish",...I relegated to hang that jig from a shelf in my room, it's there still, and whenever I am to fish the Hudson,...believe me, I tied a few more up the following week, that make the trip out there, but that particular jig? Goes nowhere, it will stay right where it is, for me to gaze upon everyonce in a while and smile, It owes me nothing, but i refuse to fish and loose that jig Love this story..... Quote
RedHeadAngler Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 My Rapala rattlin rap 04 in baby bass... Caught tons of bass lost it in the bottom of a cove about 10 casts later my dad reels it in hooked to his lure. Guess it wasn't it's time to go. 2 Quote

But usually more in the 6-8 range. Same here.I lose them all the time.Especially frogs.I bank fish from so many tight spots that i can pinpoint a spot sidearmed standing on one leg.I hate when I cant get one out of a tree, and when i go back the next day someone else managed to get it! Ive climbed trees for these guys.Custom Lunkerz Spy Pops.3/4 oz of topwater madness. They make so much noise between the popper in the front and prop in the back that bass massacre these things. They hit those with pure hatred and very violent strikes. 2 Quote

j bab Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 I almost lost the Hudd that caught my PB. I was dumb for throwing it (I want to mount it with the replica) but I did anyways, and caught on a big piece of a tree in 30ft of water... I thought for sure I was gonna break it off, I pulled from every direction and nothing worked. Eventually I put a lot of steady pressure on it to see if the hook would straighten and it started to move a little. I pulled and pulled for several minutes, one crank at a time, and eventually pulled up my Hudd attached to a stick that seemed like it was probably 100 pounds! Gotta love CXX... Needless to say I now keep a lure retriever and that Hudd stays in the house until the replica is ready to be picked up in May 1 Quote

JoePhish Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 I have a silver Zerek Sabre Dance 85 that I've caught so many fish on. It's deadly when they are popping shad on the surface. Now I only break it out for tournaments because I can't find them in the US anymore and shipping is an arm and a leg from Asia, where the company is located. A seller on Ebay has them but only in gold. If anyone here has it in silver I'll be happy to buy it off you. Quote
Jagg Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 I have a bunch of Rapala Original Floating Minnows in the baby bass color from size F03 to F13. They don't make that color anymore and it flat out catches fish where ever I go. I've tried other floating minnows in the baby bass color, but none of them catch fish like the Rapala. 1 Quote

Took me a long time to finally pull the trigger but glad I did. They're not cheap either, but I found that the shape and the action together are absolute killer anytime they're feeding on shad. Different water color, conditions, wind, it really doesn't matter. This is one hard bait that I don't have to think about choosing when they're chasing. There's just something about that double joint and odd shape. Mike Quote
