Jagg Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Greetings! I have been reading Bass Resource articles for years, but had no idea there was a sister forum. I am an avid bass angler who primarily fishes finesse rigs and presentations. The last few years I have been buying NorthStar swim jigs, but have only really focused on fishing them this past calendar year. I've been fishing them on my St Croix Premier 7' M F casting rod pretty much exclusively. Fish 3/16 - 5/16 sizes with the standard Kalin's grubs, Rage menace grub and paddle tails mostly. I feel like the rod I'm using is adequate, but was wondering if there is a better option. Not a lot of really dense or nasty cover that I have to pull bass out of in the waters I'm currently fishing. Most of what I've read on-line just says to use the same rod I do for fishing spinnerbaits, but I don't really fish spinnerbaits, so that's kinda out. Thanks for your help! 1 Quote
Frenchman83 Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 No issues with the rod you are using. I throw mine on a 6'7" M fast or a 7'0" MH fast depending on weight and target species. 1 Quote
CTBassin860 Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 I throw mine on a 7'1" MHF St Croix Mojo Bass casting rod and its branded as a jig and trailer rod.My guess is you should keep on doing what your doing. Quote
Scarborough817 Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 I throw all my jigs on the same rod a 7'6" h/f vendetta Quote
JigMaster4 Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 I use a 7' mh/f as my chatterbait/spinnerbait/swim jig rod. 1 Quote
trupp30 Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 Last year I bought an iRod Gen 2 stone cold swimjig/bladed jig rod, and I love it. At $150, the price is good. The rod is light, I increased my casting distance and hook-up ratio. Here is a link to check it out. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/iROD_Genesis_II_Series_Casting_Rods/descpage-IRGCT.html I liked it so much that I bought another to through my bladed jigs. Quote

Here is an overview that might help: Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted December 12, 2016 Super User Posted December 12, 2016 Since the swim jigs you're throwing are so light, I'd stick with the M/F. If you decide to move up into the 3/8, 1/2, or 3/4 oz swim jigs, then you would probably want to step up to a MH/F instead of a medium. Quote
Jagg Posted December 13, 2016 Author Posted December 13, 2016 Thanks for the help, yall. Gonna stick with the Premier for now. Quote
Mr Swim Jig Posted December 16, 2016 Posted December 16, 2016 I use a Daiwa Tatula 7' 2" MH/R for swim jigs... Quote
