Catch 22 Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 The old record of approx. 51 lbs will stand the challenge of a potential new record of 62 lbs . On the day the 62 was caught ,the DNR had stopped the boat in forbidden water to posses or c & r stripers on the coast .FYI ,it is illegal to target ,c & r,or posses stripers further off the coast than 3 miles in the EEZ. There was a discrepancy about when, where the monster was caught so the record was denied. A heart breaker no doubt ,but rules are rules . C22 Quote

C22 I used to patrol that EEZ line - Some anglers (Recreational & Commercial) are all about straddling "The Line". With the accuracy of today's electronics, it's hard for a potential offender to convince a Marine LEO there was any question as to a boat's exact position - inside or out. This is serious business and since the Exclusive Economic Zone or EEZ is outside of state waters - these become Federal Offenses. Consequences for violations are no joke - especially for commercial / charter Captains - here's an example from a few years back. https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/five-virginia-charter-fishing-boat-captains-sentenced-lacey-act-violations If the anglers in the OP's did in fact violate the laws here - losing the WR may be the least of their concerns A-Jay 1 Quote
Catch 22 Posted December 13, 2016 Author Posted December 13, 2016 Thank you for your service A-Jay Yeah it was a big joke until the feds started cracking the whip. Some had their circle of communication and would actually toss fish overboard when the feds approached them. No pity for them, once they got caught. The EEZ is needed to protect the stocks. It hurts my coastal area when they head south ,lots of them are 5 to 15 miles off shore. I guess your socked in snow by now.I was on the sweet water today catchin pickerel and one bass.Love it here in the winter. C22 Quote
