bigbassin' Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 What part of Florida? In South Florida I've heard of them being on beds in December, while in North Florida they may not spawn till mid-April. Quote

bigbassin' Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 Never fished in that area, but I'd assume January through February will be when most fish are spawning in that area. 1 Quote
gmoney13 Posted December 11, 2016 Author Posted December 11, 2016 @soflabasser do you know when the Bass spawn in Florida. Quote
davecon Posted December 11, 2016 Posted December 11, 2016 West Central Florida (Sarasota area) January and February. Is best for the big girls. March thru April best for numbers. This is a generalization, early or late wintertime (that's Florida wintertime) can be a factor. There is not a whole lot of bass fishing in the immediate Sarasota area. Will have to drive a ways east or south for the most part unless you know of some smaller waters locally. 1 Quote

davecon Posted December 12, 2016 Posted December 12, 2016 I'm in the Tampa Bay Area and fish just north of Sarasota. If you want big fish I suggest a 12 inch worm from Bass Pro (squirming worm). Early in the a.m. Use black, then go to grape with glitter, then watermelon. If you are after numbers, try a black straight tail Zoom trick worm. Use as light a sinker as you can get away with. Next best thing for numbers is a weightless Senko. Color doesn't matter. Whatever you do fish so slow that it hurts. I mean really hurts. 1 Quote

Where in Sarasota area do you plan on going bass fishing too?Is the water clear or murky? Are you fishing from the bank or boat? Are you after numbers of bass, only big bass,or are you happy with whatever you can catch?I mostly fish the South Florida area, but have done ok fishing the West Coast of Florida using the same lures I use down here. Here is a list of lures that you can try and see which one they want on a specific day.Make sure to try different retrieves until the bass let you know what they want; Hollow Body Frog Buzzbait Spinnerbait Crankbait Lipless crankbait Jerk bait Swimbait Senko Fluke Trick worm Ribbon tail worm Jig 1 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted December 12, 2016 Global Moderator Posted December 12, 2016 I've seen a few beds in So. Sarasota and Charlotte County for weeks now. The pre spawn girls are getting a little jumpy down here. The list of baits soflabasser listed is a good start. Waters will be starting to warm back up, as it will be in the low 80's down here all week. Good Luck Mike 1 Quote

First time I'm fishing in Florida. Going to my cousins house for vacation and we do this once every 5 years so I want to make it count. I just want to throw for big bass all day. I'm going all in and I am fishing from land. What lures is a go big or go home. The price range for the lure that would be ideal is under $10 Quote

What lures is a go big or go home. The price range for the lure that would be ideal is under $10 You remind me of my little cousin,he's been obsessed in fishing for big bass ever since I helped him catch his first big bass last year.He fishes almost every day and already caught a +8 pounder from land in less than a year of seriously bass fishing(he lives in the Lakeland area,so he is surrounded by big bass). I am going to tell you the same thing I told my little cousin about fishing for big bass...the most important attribute you need to have is to be persistent and understand that targeting trophy bass is difficult,no matter how good you are.Dont give up and do your best to learn something new on every single fishing trip you have.Write down all successful fishing trips(date, what lure you used to catch the big bass, weather conditions, moon phase, where you caught the bass, what depth you caught the bass, etc). This information will help you learn how to be more consistent in the long run,so its worth it.Don't forget to have fun in the process and give yourself breaks in bass fishing(fish for something else, practice another hobby, etc) so you don't burn out. With that said there is no 100% guaranteed lure that will catch you a +8 pound bass or better on each trip.Every body of water is different and every day is different, so what might work today might not work tomorrow.A swimbait might catch you a big bass one day and then not catch you any bass for several trips.A small hollow body frog might catch you a bunch of small bass, but one day might catch your next PB. Be patient, be willing to put in your time, and you will eventually catch the big bass you are after. 1 Quote
Super User geo g Posted December 13, 2016 Super User Posted December 13, 2016 The spawn can go from November to March depending on weather fronts. Not all bass will spawn at the same time. In Florida, our bass will sometimes spawn more then once a year. Florida bass are a little different then their northern cousins in several ways.. Quote
