Super User tcbass Posted December 10, 2016 Super User Posted December 10, 2016 Looking to get a Minn Kota Ulterra and compatible Link Hummingbird for the bow of my VLO. Don't want the most expensive. Just the most bang for your buck unit. What's the best value priced Minn Kota Link compatible Hummingbird? Quote
"hamma" Posted December 10, 2016 Posted December 10, 2016 I have a ulterra I-pilot link, and the "least expensive" compatable was a helix 9, as I needed a ethernet compatable unit for the I pilot link to operate. I found the info I needed on humminbirds site this past spring,.. I do know they just came out with gen2 units and have yet to check them out, there may now be different options now, so you may want to check humminbirds compatability listing on their site Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted December 11, 2016 Super User Posted December 11, 2016 The new Helix 7 CHIRP G2N series is Ethernet capable. Sonar, DI, and SI versions. The Helix 9 Sonar GPS is the least expensive 9" model. There will be a Helix 9 CHIRP GPS G2N for Sonar and DI and a Helix 9 CHIRP MEGA SI GPS G2N unit also. Forgot to add that the best bang of the buck has been the Helix 10 and 12 series that have been on sale for about $800- $1000 off MSRP for at least a month. Quote

Will these hook up to a plain Ipilot without link? Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted December 13, 2016 Super User Posted December 13, 2016 There is no sonar unit communication with iPilot. iPilot Link is the Ethernet connection to a Humminbird unit to use the Follow-the-contour feature with Lakemaster mapping and have more waypoints and tracks memory. If the motor has a US2 transducer, you can use that for 2D sonar, but has nothing to do with iPilot. Quote

So, even if it's not an Ipilot or Link but has a US2 transducer it can be used with any 2D sonar brand? Quote
